The Legacy of Fairbairn and Sutherland provides the first comprehensive review of W.R.D. Fairbairn and John Sutherland's theories on psycho-social development. It reviews Fairbairn and Sutherland's ideas, traces the philosophical roots of their thinking, explores their legacy, and demonstrates their relevance to contemporary practice. International contributors set these psychoanalytic theories in their philosophical and cultural context. They discuss the growing acceptance of Fairbairn and Sutherland's work in Europe and the Americas. They discuss the theories' impact on current thinking in subjects such as sexuality, hysteria, autonomy and repression. They re-examine the theories in the light of current clinical experience, illuminate them with reference to contemporary psychoanalytic theories and illustrate them with examples from work with children, adults, groups and families. This book presents an original fusion of the ideas of two of the most noteworthy figures in recent psychoanalysis. It will prove fascinating reading for all practicing and training psychotherapists and psychoanalysts.

Have you ever been to Italy? Have you ever been in love? Well you’re in for a treat. My Treasurer Chest is both a romance and a family saga about a recent college graduate, Antonio, and a young lady, Sara, who, ordained by the stars, meet at an Italian restaurant in New York City. Their romance is sparked when Sara’s hand glances Antonio’s as she sets his tab on the table. Following their whirlwind romance, Antonio and Sara are joined by Antonio’s three best friends, Dante, Filippo and Giovanni, as well as Sara’s sister and maid of honor, Bethany, and her twin brother, James, who gives his sister away. After clearing out their apartments in New York, Antonio and Sara pack the remainder of their belongings in crates, and ship them to Italy. Life settles into a new sense of normal for Sara and Antonio after they move to Italy. Sara is introduced to Antonio’s family and a host of new characters, including Ava, the sweet, loving cook, Antonio’s ornery brother, Angelo, and the boy’s beloved Uncle Lorenzo. Antonio hires an architect who draws up plans and hires a staff to renovate the estate house as Sara slowly grows accustom to her new Italian family and life on a beautiful estate and winery in the rolling hills of Tuscany. Along with building a new life together, Sara and Antonio start a family. Sara’s first child is a determined daughter whom they name Abriana, after Antonio’s Great Aunt. Two years later, the family is in an uproar when Sara gives birth to twin boys, whom they name Georgio and Giovanni after Antonio and Sara’s fathers. Life is not without its ups and downs. It is unpredictable--at best. But in the end, it is a journey full of love, laughter and loss. Thank you for joining me on this journey.

The jolly and exciting tale of the little boy who lost his red coat and his blue trousers and his purple shoes but who was saved from the tigers to eat 169 pancakes for his supper, has been universally loved by generations of children. First written in 1899, the story has become a childhood classic and the authorized American edition with the original drawings by the author has sold hundreds of thousands of copies. Little Black Sambo is a book that speaks the common language of all nations, and has added more to the joy of little children than perhaps any other story. They love to hear it again and again; to read it to themselves; to act it out in their play.

Full of delightful fairy tales, charming poems, and engaging stories, the My Bookhouse series for children was published in the 1920s by Olive Beaupré Miller as a six-volume set. The books contained the best in children's literature and progressed through a natural, carefully graded order, from the simplest poems and stories to those that are more complex. Miller set high standards for the books: "First, -To be well equipped for life, to have ideas and the ability to express them, the child needs a broad background of familiarity with the best in literature. "Second, -Stories and rhymes must be selected with care that the child may absorb no distorted view of life and its actual values, but may grow up to be mentally clear about values and emotionally impelled to seek what is truly desirable and worthwhile in human living. "Third, -The stories and rhymes selected must be graded to the child's understanding at different periods of growth, graded as to vocabulary, as to subject matter and as to complexity of structure and plot." The series would eventually include twelve volumes. The original volumes included: Volume 1, In the Nursery (1920) Volume 2, Up One Pair of Stairs (1920) Volume 3, Through Fairy Halls (1920) Volume 4, The Treasure Chest (1920) Volume 5, From The Tower Window (1921) Volume 6, The Latch Key (1921) The series is an ideal teaching aid for parents who want to help their children read well, think clearly, and absorb the most important lessons that literature has to teach. This volume, a facsimile of the original 1920 edition of The Treasure Chest, features classic stories of wonder and adventure. It also features the color illustrations included in the original edition of the book. It is printed on acid-free, archival-quality paper for durability and long use.
