It is inevitable that these mighty changes will work somewhat of a change in the original objects of Memorial Day. It will continue to give special honor to those brave men who fought and died to preserve the Union, but it will become more and more a national Memorial Day-a day when our memories of the past are touched by our hopes of the future - a day when we honor all those who have fought nobly for a noble and just cause, as well as those who have labored nobly to remove the causes of national and international wars. Memorial Day must become and remain the day for honoring all those who on battle field, or in church, in school, in business, or in legislative halls, have done what they could to make the nation and the world places where brethren can dwell together in peace and unity.
