Oculoplastic surgery is the cosmetic, corrective, and reconstructive surgery of the eye. It manages and repairs problems primarily related to the tissues or structures surrounding the eye (eyelids, tear ducts, orbit), rather than the eyeball itself (healthcommunities.com). Orbitopathy is a condition associated with swelling of the tissue in the orbit creating bulging of the eyes. It is associated with Graves’ disease, a condition that causes over-activity of the thyroid gland (Johns Hopkins Medicine). Dacryology is the study of the lacrimal (tear) system and is associated with ‘dry eye’. This book is a comprehensive guide to oculoplasty, orbitopathy and dacryology. Beginning with an introduction to the basic concepts, the following sections discuss the diagnosis and surgical management of various disorders associated with each of these subspecialties. Emphasis is placed on both quantitative and qualitative diagnostic assessment and nearly 750 clinical photographs and illustrations assist learning. Key points Comprehensive guide to oculoplasty, orbitopathy and dacryology Discusses diagnosis and surgical management of numerous disorders Emphasis on quantitative and qualitative assessment Includes nearly 750 clinical photographs and illustrations

This second edition of the highly successful and comprehensive text on lacrimal disorders presents the latest developments in this rapidly evolving field. The new edition includes six new chapters, additional photographs and all chapters now have a separate section on recent advances. Written by experts in the field of dacryology, this book is a practical guide to evaluating and managing patients with lacrimal disorders. It methodically discusses basic anatomy and underlying pathology, patient evaluation, and all surgical procedures currently used to manage such disorders. It thoroughly yet concisely reviews surgical modalities including the endoscopic and micro-endoscopic approaches and provides ample illustrations for a better understanding. Since familiarity with a surgical technique is incomplete without the knowledge of risk factors and red flags, the text highlights ways of dealing with surgical complications and failure. Further it discusses in detail controversial topics and treatment dilemmas and reviews the current consensus among the experts. This is an up-to-date reference work for dacryologists, oculoplastic surgeons, general ophthalmologists as well as fellows in training.

This handbook on orbital, lacrimal and eyelid emergencies deals with such situations in a practical manner guiding the ophthalmologists in accurate handling and making them more proficient and confident in managing vision and life-threatening emergencies. With 51 chapters and more than 350 images, this book covers all the eye emergencies that generalist and specialist ophthalmologists can expect to come across in their day to day practices. It can be argued that the orbit can no more be called ‘Pandora’s Box’ because of the unpredictable nature of its contents. This perception has changed over the years due to the advent of improved diagnostic, in particular, imaging techniques. However, since medical residency provides very little exposure to orbital and adnexal disorders, most clinicians are inexperienced and unsure about their management. Facing an emergency situation where improper management can rapidly worsen the condition leading to blindness or even death of the patient is every ophthalmologist’s nightmare. The emergent nature of these conditions does not always provide for a leeway to refer these patients to an orbit and oculoplasty specialist, who are few and far between. By the time the patient reaches his destination, his vision maybe irrevocably lost. The legal implications of such mismanagement can be significant too. This book is a quick and essential resource to manage and refer eye emergencies with confidence.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging test that uses light waves to take cross-sectional pictures of the retina, the light-sensitive tissue lining the back of the eye (eyeSmart). The technique is recognised worldwide as an essential device for diagnosis, assessment and follow up of retinal diseases and glaucoma. This atlas provides ophthalmologists and trainees with a collection of OCT images to help with the identification, diagnosis and subsequent treatment of common retinal and anterior segment disorders. The images are compiled from the authors’ own collections using Plex Elite and Cirrus 6000 technology. Fundus angiography images assist with the understanding of related pathologies. Divided into two sections, the book begins with images illustrating the normal fundus, then numerous different retinal disorders including diabetic retinopathy, macular disorders, retinal detachment, uveitis and toxicities. Section two covers anterior segment disorders, beginning with images of the normal cornea, then illustrating a range of disorders including corneal dystrophies, ocular surface disorders, keratoconus, glaucoma, and trauma. Each section features a multitude of images, each with brief descriptive text.

Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) is a non-invasive technique for imaging the microvasculature of the retina and the choroid. The advent of OCTA has allowed ophthalmologists to identify new pathologies, recognise new syndromes, and organise disorders with new classifications. This atlas provides clinicians with state-of-the-art principles of clinical OCTA imaging, helping them interpret and understand the features of the angiographic images. Following the success of the first edition (9789351528999) published in 2015, this second edition has been fully revised, with all chapters rewritten and new topics added to provide the very latest advances in the field. New knowledge about existing diseases and new disorders are described in depth, and operating principles, clinical applications, and future developments are explained thoroughly by the pioneers of the technology. The first part of the atlas covers the basic principles of OCT angiography, methods and technology, image interpretation, vascular anatomy of the retina, and clinical applications. Part two provides a general update on current research into OCT angiography in various retinal, choroid and anterior chamber disorders. The third and final part of the book describes future clinical applications and implications of next generation devices. This new edition is an invaluable guide for ophthalmologists and trainees for use in everyday practice.
