Prepare the way of the Lord! This is the cry of Lent. For forty days (not including Sundays) from Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday, we prepare for Easter. Lent invites us to make ready our hearts for remembering Jesus' death and resurrection. Lent encourages us to draw nearer to Him, as we choose to participate in intentional prayer, service, and generous giving. Lent begs us to make more room for Jesus in our busy lives. And so, we pray, we serve, we give. And day by day, we prepare our hearts for the rich celebration of Easter. Living Lent 2024 is a devotional series created by and for Morningstar Children and Family Services, a ministry which provides residential and counseling care to Georgia's special need foster children. This year, we have returning and new authors from across Georgia, each sharing words of reflection on the daily reading, which parallel The Revised Common Lectionary. Additionally, each Sunday we share some of the challenging facts regarding child welfare and the lives of all foster children, as well as highlights of Morningstar Children's Home. We ask you to pray with us week to week for the specific needs of the children and the many people involved in their care. Thank you for joining us on this Lenten journey. Our prayer for you is that these days together become a time of preparing well. A time where we make room for something good, something better, something life-giving from the God who came and gave all for us.

Forgiveness is hard. But Jesus knows how much we need it. True forgiveness can be complicated because the pain of betrayal, loss, deception, and personal attack clings tightly to our emotions, memories, even our bodies. We may intend to forgive yet become stuck in our own mixed motives, others’ silence or anger, and the skewed stories we believe and tell about our lives. In The Ignatian Guide to Forgiveness, Marina McCoy delves into the principles of Ignatian spirituality and uses gentle honesty to lay out 10 steps toward forgiveness, including: • Sort out true desires • Honor anger while deepening compassion • Make friends with time • Create a new story • . . . and more. Each chapter offers stories, real-life steps to take, and a powerful prayer for healing Forgiveness is hard, but it’s also possible—with our “habits of mercy” and God’s abundant grace.

During Lent, we strive to free ourselves from all kinds of clutter—material and spiritual—in order to focus on God and turn back to him with our whole hearts. If this “turning back” is genuine, it will be a reorientation, a transformation. To help us enter into this season, Amy Ekeh guides readers in exploring three key moments in the life and ministry of Jesus. The result will be a better understanding of the authentic transformation that God calls each of us to embrace as individuals and as a community and a renewed desire to live God’s own outward-looking, self-emptying, laying-down-one’s-life kind of love.

We're all going to die. Yet in our medically advanced, technological age, many of us see death as a distant reality--something that happens only at the end of a long life or to other people. In The End of the Christian Life, Todd Billings urges Christians to resist that view. Instead, he calls us to embrace our mortality in our daily life and faith. This is the journey of genuine discipleship, Billings says: following the crucified and resurrected Lord in a world of distraction and false hopes. Drawing on his experience as a professor and father living with incurable cancer, Billings offers a personal yet deeply theological account of the gospel's expansive hope for small, mortal creatures. Artfully weaving rich theology with powerful narrative, Billings writes for church leaders and laypeople alike. Whether we are young or old, reeling from loss or clinging to our own prosperity, this book challenges us to walk a strange but wondrous path: in the midst of joy and lament, to receive mortal limits as a gift, an opportunity to give ourselves over to the Lord of life.
