It is my desire, through the writing of The Gospel We Preach, to bring an exposition of the different aspects and truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Preaching may take many different forms, whether from the church pulpit or in more relaxed environments in coffee bars or small groups. Water can come in various containers, but it is still water! The Gospel can be presented in various ways, but it must still be the Gospel that eventually leads to genuine repentance to life. It is a love story of God seeking to bring a lost world back into relationship with Himself. It is a plan that called for the greatest sacrifice the universe has ever seen. It is the Gospel of God's grace and love that offers every living soul the opportunity to step out of spiritual darkness and death into the abundant life of Christ. This book will take you on a journey through the great truths of salvation that every believer needs to understand. To become a disciple and fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ, it is vitally important to understand who we are in Christ and how this new life He offers really transforms. The Gospel We Preach can be given to those who may not as yet come to faith in Christ, and it will be a great resource for all believers, whether new to the faith or have been serving God for many years. For those who aspire to become preachers and those who have perhaps been serving the Lord in ministry for many years, my prayer is that this book will inspire you to preach the Gospel with all its amazing love, passion, and power. The book is illustrated with some personal testimony and some amusing incidents. May you be blessed as you read The Gospel We Preach.

God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6 This book is a cry from the heart of John Piper. He is pleading that God himself, as revealed in Christ's death and resurrection, is the ultimate and greatest gift of the gospel. None of Christ's gospel deeds and none of our gospel blessings are good news except as means of seeing and savoring the glory of Christ. Forgiveness is good news because it opens the way to the enjoyment of God himself. Justification is good news because it wins access to the presence and pleasures of God himself. Eternal life is good news because it becomes the everlasting enjoyment of Christ. All God's gifts are loving only to the degree that they lead us to God himself. That is what God's love is: his commitment to do everything necessary (most painfully the death of his only Son) to enthrall us with what is most deeply and durably satisfying-namely, himself. Saturated with Scripture, centered on the cross, and seriously joyful, this book leads us to satisfaction for the deep hungers of the soul. It touches us at the root of life where practical transformation gets its daily power. It awakens our longing for Christ and opens our eyes to his beauty. Piper writes for the soul-thirsty who have turned away empty and in desperation from the mirage of methodology. He invites us to slow down and drink from a deeper spring. "This is eternal life," Jesus said, "that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent." This is what makes the gospel-and this book-good news.

LIFT UP YOUR EYES is a book of daily devotions written by a Christian pastor who over a lifetime of ministry has come to know the hungers and hurts, the hearts and hopes of humanity. It consists of 374 one-page devotions chosen from over two decades of religious columns written for the Saturday editorial page of the Temple Daily Telegram, by the Rev. Clyde E. Nichols, Minister Emeritus of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Temple Texas where he served as senior minister for 23 years from 1963 to 1986. The book contains 365 devotions, one for every day of the year, plus eight for movable holidays (Martin Luther King Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, etc.). Each of the devotions is matched with a carefully chosen memory verse from the Bible. Using wonderful stories, humor, Scripture and anecdotes, this book speaks to the real life situations we all confront and helps us do a better job of meeting them. Each of the daily devotions is calculated to lift the spirit, focus the mind, and bring a more positive perspective on all we are facing. It is for young and old alike-children, teenagers, adults, senior citizens. Kept on the coffee table or night stand, LIFT UP YOUR EYES can be read daily with one's devotions or picked up, opened anywhere, and read two or three at a time for comfort, challenge, personal growth, self-development and self-esteem. To spend a year with LIFT UP YOUR EYES is to grow in the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.

This is a Church Dictionary, especially one not as expensive as the more costly works, and at the same time something more complete and satisfactory than a mere glossary of terms. What seems to be needed is an inexpensive, handy volume, "short enough for busy people, plain enough for common people, cheap enough for poor people," yet complete enough to give the information needed. The present work was undertaken with this object in view. It was thought "worthwhile"; for if words are things, then greater familiarity with the phraseology of the Church will lead to greater knowledge "of the things pertaining to the Kingdom of God." What is here set forth is really a HANDY BOOK OF READY REFERENCE arranged in alphabetical order; and while some of the articles may seem to be too brief, yet with the system of cross references adopted, it is believed, will throw considerable light on subjects where it is employed and thus enables the book to be kept within the limits already specified.

Volume 83- The Sword and the Trowel, Volume 4 Charles Spurgeon (19 June 1834 – 31 January 1892) is one of the church’s most famous preachers and Christianity’s foremost prolific writers. Called the “Prince of Preachers,” he was one of England's most notable ministers for most of the second half of the nineteenth century, and he still remains highly influential among Christians of different denominations today. His sermons have spread all over the world, and his many printed works have been cherished classics for decades. In his lifetime, Spurgeon preached to more than 10 million people, often up to ten times each week. He was the pastor of the congregation of the New Park Street Chapel (later the Metropolitan Tabernacle) in London for 38 years. He was an inexhaustible author of various kinds of works including sermons, commentaries, an autobiography, as well as books on prayer, devotionals, magazines, poetry, hymns and more. Spurgeon was known to produce powerful sermons of penetrating thought and divine inspiration, and his oratory and writing skills held his audiences spellbound. Many Christians have discovered Spurgeon's messages to be among the best in Christian literature. Edward Walford wrote in Old and New London: Volume 6 (1878) quoting an article from the Times regarding one of Spurgeon’s meetings at Surrey: “Fancy a congregation consisting of 10,000 souls, streaming into the hall, mounting the galleries, humming, buzzing, and swarming—a mighty hive of bees—eager to secure at first the best places, and, at last, any place at all. After waiting more than half an hour—for if you wish to have a seat you must be there at least that space of time in advance—Mr. Spurgeon ascended his tribune. To the hum, and rush, and trampling of men, succeeded a low, concentrated thrill and murmur of devotion, which seemed to run at once, like an electric current, through the breast of every one present, and by this magnetic chain the preacher held us fast bound for about two hours. It is not my purpose to give a summary of his discourse. It is enough to say of his voice, that its power and volume are sufficient to reach every one in that vast assembly; of his language, that it is neither high-flown nor homely; of his style, that it is at times familiar, at times declamatory, but always happy, and often eloquent; of his doctrine, that neither the 'Calvinist' nor the 'Baptist' appears in the forefront of the battle which is waged by Mr. Spurgeon with relentless animosity, and with Gospel weapons, against irreligion, cant, hypocrisy, pride, and those secret bosom-sins which so easily beset a man in daily life; and to sum up all in a word, it is enough to say of the man himself, that he impresses you with a perfect conviction of his sincerity.” More than a hundred years after his death, Charles Spurgeon’s legacy continues to effectively inspire the church around the world. For this reason, Delmarva Publications has chosen to publish the complete works of Charles Spurgeon.
