I at last got it opened, and a mass of old letters and documents therein, disclosed in great detail the early efforts made to establish Church of England services in the district, and the progress of the undertaking from its beginning (nearly 160 years ago) to the time of building the present Church of St. John's. There were also two books of quaint and interesting extracts from Parish Registers, dating back as far as r 584.
