Title: "Leila's And Kim's Pre-college Vocabulary in Context and Graded Grammar Exercises" This Workbook {is a valuable tool put forward for the benefit of aspiring Leila and ambitious Kim and their high school and pre-college peers who would use it to enrich their repertoire of vocabulary and review their English Grammar to help them cope with their post high school and college requirements and to satisfy their search and eagerness to using the language smoothly and with confidence. In fact, in order to respond to Leila's strong desire to learn and Kim's tremendous love of developing language proficiency, this Workbook contains a large number of Vocabulary Exercises totaling more than 200 which are intended to help enrich users by more than 3000 words of common use, most of which are part of the International Word List and carly college textbook items, in addition to the many other items used in the multiple-choice-question distractors. Similarly, there are more than 200 Grammar Exercises of 20 items each. Both the Vocabulary and the Grammar Exercises are supplied with answers at the end of each exercise to facilitate reference instead of having tables appended at the end of the book, which are not usually referred to by many users. A user of the Workbook, however, should only look at the answers once he or she has finished the exercise to compare the answers. The context sentences used in the Workbook are simple and are meant to please Kim and thrill Leila rather than frustrate their efforts or waste their valuable time. The review exercises have not been haphazardly written, but are the result of many years of working with the likes of Leila and Kim here and abroad as well as personal involvement in program development, text and test writing, research and note-taking in order to decide the context in which an item should fit. Finally, whether the user of this Workbook is a high school student, a pre-college or university student, or a job seeker, it is certainly an excellent tool in hand and A Road to College and Career Success' only if the exercises are given the time and the effort required!

SAS & SAM English Grammar and Vocabulary Series has a number of hand-outs or Workbooks of Graded Levels of English Grammar & Vocabulary totaling more than 12 handouts which I find necessary for the Beginner, Post beginner and the Pre-College Foreign Language Learners (EFL) from the Far East, the Middle East, Europe and South America and serves as a review tool to help learners review their rules of English Grammar, improve and consolidate what they have learnt in their EFL learning process and now they prepare to pursue college education or apply for a job in today's competitive job market. Each Grammar hand-out is suitable for the level designated in the handout whereas the vocabulary hand outs are intended for the post intermediate students who have had some reasonable background of the English language. In this handout of the vocabulary exercises, a vocabulary item is used in context and a user/student is to guess the meaning of the underlined item from the context provided. The objective is to train Leila and Dave to use the clues available in the context in order to learn and establish the meaning of the vocabulary item from its surrounding. It is, therefore, meant to equip Leila, Kim, Renata and Dave with the means and enrich their language. As the user will notice, the exercises are of twenty items each and an answer key is provided at the end of each exercise of 20 items. In addition to a sufficient number of vocabulary Review Exercises, the hand-out/Workbook also contains a section especially related to students willing to pursue business and banking careers and a number of exercises have been provided for this purpose which will help the user to review, consolidate and enrich his or her vocabulary repertoire, also with an answer key provided at the end of some of the review exercise. When the student finishes the review questions that have answer keys at the end, he or she can move to the second part of 'more exercises' and answer the questions based on what he should have learnt from the answered exercises. It is for this reason that I did not supply answer sheets for some sections. The review exercises were not haphazardly written, but were the result of many years of personal involvement in program development, text and test writing, research and note-taking in order to decide which item must come in each Review Level, based on necessity and ease or difficulty. The user will, therefore, find at the beginning of each level a list of the items reviewed. This does not mean that the items may not re-appear later on as many may re-surface every-now-and then in an interesting cyclic way for consolidation, unity of topic, necessity and coherence. The journey into this workbook begins with a self- assessment that contains two exercises of 100 grammar questions each, the results of which should act as a guide to the Workbook user of how much effort he or she may have to put in reviewing the grammar rules. The Assessment exercises are a gateway to the workbook and a gateway to success in career and life.

Why were urban women veiled in the early 1900s, unveiled from 1936 to 1979, and reveiled after the 1979 revolution? This question forms the basis of Hamideh Sedghi's original and unprecedented contribution to politics and Middle Eastern studies. Using primary and secondary sources, Sedghi offers new knowledge on women's agency in relation to state power. In this rigorous analysis she places contention over women at the centre of the political struggle between secular and religious forces and demonstrates that control over women's identities, sexuality, and labor has been central to the consolidation of state power. Sedghi links politics and culture with economics to present an integrated analysis of the private and public lives of different classes of women and their modes of resistance to state power.

Antarcticness joins disciplines, communication approaches and ideas to explore meanings and depictions of Antarctica. Personal and professional words in poetry and prose, plus images, present and represent Antarctica, as presumed and as imagined, alongside what is experienced around the continent and by those watching from afar. These understandings explain how the Antarctic is viewed and managed while identifying aspects which should be more prominent in policy and practice. The authors and artists place Antarctica, and the perceptions and knowledge through Antarcticness, within inspirations and imaginations, without losing sight of the multiple interests pushing the continent’s governance as it goes through rapid political and environmental changes. Given the diversity and disparity of the influences and changes, the book’s contributions connect to provide a more coherent and encompassing perspective of how society views Antarctica, scientifically and artistically, and what the continent provides and could provide politically, culturally and environmentally. Offering original research, art and interpretations of different experiences and explorations of Antarctica, explanations meld with narratives while academic analyses overlap with first-hand experiences of what Antarctica does and does not – could and could not – bring to the world.
