Excerpt from Labor Bulletin of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Vol. 10: March, 1906 One of the stipulations of the law which led to a considerable increase in the number of inquiries was the provision of Section 3, which required the Chief of the Bureau to communicate, before preparing the schedules, with the heads Of the different State departments, Offices, and institutions, and invite suggestions from them as to the insertion of inquiries, the answers to which would supply information of value. In addition to the branches Of inquiries previously mentioned the census will obtain statis tics relating to forestry, covering the kinds of trees, the years of growth, and the distribution in the different cities and towns. The facts thus secured will enable the State Forester to prepare a forestry map. In addition, the riparian rights given for the planting of oysters and clams will be thoroughly investigated, so that measures may be taken by legis lative action, or otherwise, to increase the productive capacity Of the long line of flats upon our shore line from Cape Ann to Rhode Island.
