I never thought turkey could be studied to relate to everyday life. I know some behaviours of turkey, especially the way he drags his wing-tips on the ground and the way he walks. However, I didnt know that all such behaviours have something to do with everyday life. In fact, how Sir Marthus has studied these behaviours of turkey is so stirring. I never knew turkey is that arrogant! In reality, studying turkey is shunning arrogance. Indeed turkey is a bad leader! I have read Turkey Character and I must admit that I was moved by the words of wisdom Sir Marthus used for this book. It has made me realize all the sins I had committed, and truly I have regretted them. I find this book very interesting, informative, and life changing. Turkey Character gives me inner peace and wisdom. It has changed my way of life. It has made me a better person. Although we are just humans, and so we tend to commit mistakes, Turkey Character has taught me to think first before doing anything that makes me regret it for the rest of my life. Read Turkey Character and your life will never be the same.

The wild turkey is an iconic game bird with a long history of association with humans. Texas boasts the largest wild turkey population in the country. It is the only state where one can find native populations of three of the five subspecies of wild turkeys—the Eastern wild turkey (Meleagris gallopavo silvestris), the Rio Grande wild turkey (M. g. intermedia), and the Merriam’s wild turkey (M. g. merriami). Bringing together experts on game birds and land management in the state, this is the first book in Texas to synthesize the most current information about ecology and management focused exclusively on these three subspecies. Wild Turkeys in Texas addresses important aspects of wild turkey ecology and management in Texas, but its principles are applicable anywhere Eastern, Rio Grande, or Merriam’s turkeys exist. This book marks the continuation of one of the biggest success stories in the research, restoration, and management of the wild turkey in North America.

In the late 1920s until 1965 Maplecrest Turkey Farms of Wellman, Iowa, was a leading pioneer in the modern commercial turkey industry. A. C. Gingerich, an Amish-Mennonite farmer and entrepreneur, was able to successfully develop his business from a handful of turkeys to make Wellman both a “Turkey Capital/Center of the World” and have it uniquely proclaimed as “Thanksgiving Town” by the late 1930s. The Maplecrest brand was known for its premium quality and was available, by name, in leading restaurants also by the late 1930s. This historical book looks at how the modern turkey industry was able to initiate itself largely through knowledge of disease prevention through sanitation means. Some chapters include topics such as how the turkeys were raised, processed and marketed, especially to Eastern markets, e.g. New York City, Boston, etc., and a chapter on World War II discusses the major role that Maplecrest played in producing not only turkeys, but beef, pork and lamb for the armed forces.
