Kiaras Tiara is based on the theme that one beautiful heart can make a difference. It is a young-adult fiction story, showcasing transformations, perceptions, and love: love between a father and daughter, love between best friends; love that exists between grandparents, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and love that binds people without a blood relation and call themselves family; but most importantly, it highlights the love that a teenage girl has for the world. The name of this girl is Kiara. Introducing Kiaraa chirpy, smiling, and affectionate fifteen-year-old Indian girl, living in the United States, who was raised by a single parent. The story traces the evolution of her character from her life in a cocoon to a scintillating butterfly-like persona. Life only throws the unexpected at those who can handle it. Kiara overcame life-threatening obstacles in unconventional ways. She became an inspiration and set examples for others, by aspiring for the moon but reaching far beyond other galaxies. Necessity and belief can give an immense amount of strength and courage. Sometimes, all you need to do is believe because hope is all you have. If you really want something, and your heart truly believes in it, then nothing can keep you two apart. The entire universe itself will make sure that you end up with your hearts desire. Kiaras Tiara is a symbol of her strength, optimism, perseverance, and conviction.

Have you ever wondered what your appetite for love would be? Have you ever questioned your internal desires or even vocalized them? Have you placed God at the center of it all? We as humans have appetites just as unique as we are. It is one of the things that can separate us from each other, or bring us together. Several appetites are brought to light from abusive love to rejected love. MonaLisa says, “Refusing to forgive smothers my freedom in Christ and stunts my spiritual growth.” In this book that is very clear. This is an excellent read for those who are searching for love or wanting to love. The underlying theme seems to focus on keeping God first in our lives and in our quest for love. MonaLisa tells her story as Tiara, often called a mentor, minister, coach and counselor. She is a woman of great wisdom when it comes to helping her family and friends figure out why they love the way they love and why they love, who they love. She is an essential voice to all of them and honest in her responses to their questions. She helps them to see themselves and those they are “in love” with. Whether right or wrong, her voice is heard. As I read Love is a Desire that Becomes an Appetite, I saw myself in several scenarios and even took a moment to reflect just how far I had come in my quest for love. Each chapter in this book outlines the different appetites that we as people have. Some appetites are learned behavior that was passed down from our parents and some are other behaviors that we ourselves created in an effort to protect and provide. Although some scenarios, such as the relationship between Darrius and Alexus, highlight just how precious love can be when the two put Christ first, there are other scenarios like the relationship between Jada and Darnell, that can be leave you questioning your own desire to love. An Appetite is an excellent depiction of how love can help us when used the correct way and with the right person, or hurt us when we ourselves are hurting. For the most part, Love is a Desire that Becomes an Appetite brings out the best and worst in human relationships when it comes to love and even gives you a view into the author’s own desire to love, and be loved. In her own words, “love is not love until it is shared with someone else.” Review by Robin A. Stevens - 2014

In a world where too many babies are named Ashley and Jayden and too many baby name books are saccharine pink and blue, here comes something singular: a book that brings meaning, taste, character, a little bit of attitude, and a refreshing lack of trendiness to the art of naming a baby. Bring Back Beatrice! is a clarion call for parents who know they are naming not just a cuddly newborn, but a human being— a person who will be proud to carry a name like Iris, meaning rainbow (after the Greek messenger goddess who connected the heavens to the earth); Bennett, the medieval form of the name Benedict, meaning “blessing;” Henry, good enough for eight English kings—after all, it means “home ruler;” Diana, the Roman goddess of hunting, the allegorical antecedent of the virgin Queen Elizabeth, and alterego of Wonder Woman; or Beatrice, an old-fashioned beauty with roots in both Dante and Shakespeare. Bring Back Beatrice! winnows down the universe of names to 1,546 mostly classic examples, and it makes a strong case for each, featuring the name’s definition, its use in history, its connotations and subtleties, its “meaning” in the fuller sense. Included are variations, nicknames, and, especially useful for readers, alternatives— names that have the same flavor, but may sound better with a particular last name or family background. There’s a guide to the basic rules of baby naming: scansion— the sounds, syllables, and rhythm of a name, and how it goes with a last name—ethnic traditions, recent trends, effective use of a middle name, plus an invaluable “flaky test.” Still considering a quirky name? Just imagine yourself buckling in for a flight when a voice comes on, saying, “I’m your captain, (insert quirky name here).” What do you think now?

No one said being a single mother was easy, but, after some difficult years, Sabrena Collins seemed to finally have it together. She had a good-paying job, two beautiful daughters who were growing up with love and security, and a wonderful friend who was more like the sister she never had. She even had a man in her life who was everything her ex-husband was not: kind, generous and caring. Everything seemed perfect—except for one thing. Steve said he loved her, but he was unreliable. There was more than one night when Sabrena would lie in bed, waiting for the phone to ring…alone and crying silent tears. But when Sabrena was in his arms and he looked at her with his melt-on-the-spot chocolate brown eyes, all the problems, the sleepless nights, the cold dinners, all of that was forgotten. And then, suddenly, Sabrena’s world was turned upside down by a simple visit that led her on a frightening and unfamiliar path, that led her to a truth passion and words of love could not erase, a truth that would change her life forever. A truth that would test her faith, her courage, her strength, and above all else, her love…
