The chemical guess that this is due to certain hypothetical sub-salts of Ag has never been experimentally demonstrated and may be cast aside. The truth about the latent image is this. It represents adsorption complexes of colloid silver in different degrees of dispersion, with normal non-reduced silver haloids. This view is beautift demonstrated by the experiments of W. Reinders who has succeeded in producing these photo-haloids synthetically in the form of differently coloured crystals by allowing different silver haloids to crystallise in the presence of differently coloured colloid silvers.
