The commodities that were considered as food are listed on page 53. The total output of each edible commodity was included in the food production index regardless of whether or not it was all actually consumed as food. Similarly, no cognizance was taken of foreign trade, seed reserves, waste, or stock carryover. For these reasons, the indices of total and per capita food production are not to be regarded as indices of con sumption.
