Excerpt from Indiana at the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg Our report sets forth Indiana's part, in the celebration of the anniversary, and, in the outset, we would emphasize the fact that the plans of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania were fully carried out so far as they affected the State of Indiana. Our immediate contact with the Pennsylvania Commission, was through its efficient president, Colonel J. M. Schoon maker, and its secretary, lieutenant-colonel Lewis E. Beitler, and in the choice of such accomplished executives as these gen tlemen, the commission as a body, indicated that it was com posed throughout of very able executive talent. That com mission, while reserving to itself, the supreme control of every thing pertaining to the anniversary, wisely placed the prepara tion of the great camp for the entertainment of men, and the superintendency of the quartermasters and commissary service in the hands of accomplished officers of the United States Army. In this selection the Pennsylvania Commission manifested its uniform wisdom. The treatment of Indiana.
