Building the Self-Efficacy Beliefs of English Language Learners and Teachers explores, juxtaposes and bridges two fields of research that have developed separately: the self-efficacy beliefs of English language learners and the self-efficacy beliefs of English language teachers. The aim is to expand understanding in each field and highlight how the two areas can mutually inform each other. This should encourage fresh perspectives, providing direction for researchers, and improving learning, teaching, and teacher education. Empirical research suggests that English language learners and teachers who believe they can fulfil a task are more likely to succeed than those who believe they cannot. Based on a deep understanding of how self-efficacy beliefs are formed and developed, this book illustrates how such beliefs can be supported and researched amongst English language learners and teachers. Bringing together the work of educators and researchers working in contexts including Algeria, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Iran, Israel, Japan, Türkiye, the UK, the USA, and Vietnam, this volume includes meta-analyses largely focusing on quantitative data and empirical studies employing qualitative approaches and mixed methods. Studies included examine factors impacting the development of language teachers’ self-efficacy beliefs and investigate domain-specific dimensions of the self-efficacy beliefs of English language learners and teachers. This rigorous and original volume will appeal to an international readership of scholars, teachers, teacher educators, and researchers with interests in language education, teacher education, TESOL, linguistics, and educational psychology.

This book examines the pronunciation goals of teachers, course leaders, and learners on a ten-week UK pre-sessional access course, particularly with regard to suprasegmental instruction and target of instruction on how these goals are reflected in pronunciation assessment, and how teacher goals are informed by their attitudes and beliefs. A mixed methods approach, including direct observation and semi-structured interviews, is employed to address the area of enquiry. Results show a lack of clarity of course goals. Although there is a firm emphasis on suprasegmental instruction, in semi-structured interviews, teachers report a lack of clear course goals and guidance. Assessment and practice do not always adhere to a goal of intelligibility, and support for teachers, in terms of the materials and how they might be exploited seems limited. The book concludes with tentative recommendations on how suprasegmental instruction might be facilitated on EAP and other courses

Meanings have words. To communicate meaning, we need words. The dilemma that any IELTS student faces is: which words would be useful to study while preparing for the IELTS test? This book can be described as a "no-nonsense" textbook for Chinese students. All the material in the text contains information that would be highly useful for the student while preparing for all four sections of the IELTS test. Over the years the author has found that teachers often misunderstand what the actual needs of their students are, and they therefore often digress into long discussions and explanations which are not needed to enhance the Band Score of their students. With this in mind, the author has gone to great lengths to ensure that only material that is crucial was included, and that the language used in this book fits the level at which the students, for whom this book is intended, are at present.. Many IELTS students are aspiring to attend a tertiary educational institute in the United States of America. The copy editors of this publication were born and bred in America. They went to great lengths to ensure that the text complies with the highest standard of idiomatic American English and using only American English vocabulary as opposed to British English vocab. The glossary contains 70 topics most commonly found in IELTS tests. Lists of useful words have been selected for each topic. These words can all be used whenever the student is asked to speak or write about that particular topic. Chapter 42 contains 237 words that differ in American and British English.

The International English Language Testing System, or IELTS, is an international standardized test of English language proficiency for non-native English language speakers. It is jointly managed by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge Assessment English, and was established in 1989. Achievement in this qualification is benchmarked against the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), from level C1 Advanced (CAE) to C2 Proficiency (CPE) of the CEFR. We collect 2100 English Vocabulary in C1 Advanced (CAE) and 3000 English Vocabulary. Based on our many years' experience in HSK and IGCSE Chinese teaching and course contents preparation, we find vocabulary level classification is so important. Students can use CEFR levels for self-assessment so that they can more clearly define what they need to work on, and work out what they would like to achieve in their target language. Our Classified Chinese vocabulary list HSK and IGCSE has total 12000 vocabularies with the Best English Translation for better understanding. Many students call it "LIFE SAVING STRAW" for their exam. This book is a great success and encourages us to work beyond it. Based on our pass experience and data collection, by referring the authoritative resources like Cambridge and Oxford dictionary, here is our painstaking effort!

In Dreams of Flight, Fran Martin explores how young Chinese women negotiate competing pressures on their identity while studying abroad. On one hand, unmarried middle-class women in the single-child generations are encouraged to develop themselves as professional human capital through international education, molding themselves into independent, cosmopolitan, career-oriented individuals. On the other, strong neotraditionalist state, social, and familial pressures of the post-Mao era push them back toward marriage and family by age thirty. Martin examines these women’s motivations for studying in Australia and traces their embodied and emotional experiences of urban life, social media worlds, work in low-skilled and professional jobs, romantic relationships, religion, Chinese patriotism, and changed self-understanding after study abroad. Martin illustrates how emerging forms of gender, class, and mobility fundamentally transform the basis of identity for a whole generation of Chinese women.
