This dissertation contributes to the field of sacramental-pastoral theological studies in India, which is a developing field especially in the Indian Orthodox Church. The study enables the church's ministry to go beyond its missiological goals, present ecclesiastical practices, and to envision diakonia in terms of ministry to and from Dalits. It also contributes to the field of theology by constructively incorporating Dalit history, theology, and communal resources such as folk traditions that are crucial for a relevant pastoral theology for India. While the sacramental-pastoral theology developed in this dissertation is directly relevant to sacramentally-oriented churches, the approach is equally significant for churches which have not heeded the voice of the marginalized in their pastoral theological undertaking.
