On 1-2 March 2021, the World Health Organization convened representatives of Member States, experts and partners to review hypertension indicators in HEARTS Systems for Monitoring module for tracking performance of hypertension programme at health facility, subnational and national levels, and to provide concrete recommendation to enhance hypertension indicators for improving quality and coverage of services, considering clinical information needs and real-life challenges in patient and programme monitoring systems in countries. This technical report captures the meeting proceedings, conclusions and recommendations and proposes a revised set of core and additional hypertension indicators that countries can apply to their context which will address the following: 1. Inclusion of equity measures such as socio-demographic dimensions of hypertensive population. 2. Alignment with country-specific clinical protocols and targets. 3. Estimation of hypertensive population along the cascade of care. 4. Assessment of comorbidities and complications. 5. Long-term tracking of patients, minimizing losses to follow-up. 6. Continuous improvement of quality of clinical programme.

On 9 February and 1–4 March 2022, the World Health Organization convened experts to review proposed indicators and prioritize the most technically sound, feasible facility-based indicators for strengthening noncommunicable disease patient and programme monitoring systems at national and subnational levels for evidence-informed management of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, diabetes, hypertension and cancers such as breast cancer, cervical cancer, childhood cancers and general cancers in primary care delivery settings. This technical report captures the meeting proceedings, conclusions, and recommendations and proposes the following actions to improve validity and feasibility indicators: 1. development of clearer, operationalized definitions of numerators and denominators of indicators for consistent measurement, 2. contextualization of indicators according to varying modalities in service delivery and infrastructure in countries, 3. engagement of stakeholders in setting the target for each indicator, 4. establishment of effective coordination mechanisms among health providers at different levels of care, and 5. strengthening of routine health information systems for individual tracking and programme management using appropriate technologies.

How good is the quality of health care in the United States? Is quality improving? Or is it suffering? While the average person on the street can follow the state of the economy with economic indicators, we do not have a tool that allows us to track trends in health care quality. Beginning in 2003, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) will produce an annual report on the national trends in the quality of health care delivery in the United States. AHRQ commissioned the Institute of Medicine (IOM) to help develop a vision for this report that will allow national and state policy makers, providers, consumers, and the public at large to track trends in health care quality. Envisioning the National Health Care Quality Report offers a framework for health care quality, specific examples of the types of measures that should be included in the report, suggestions on the criteria for selecting measures, as well as advice on reaching the intended audiences. The loss of hearing - be it gradual or acute, mild or severe, present since birth or acquired in older age - can have significant effects on one's communication abilities, quality of life, social participation, and health. Despite this, many people with hearing loss do not seek or receive hearing health care. The reasons are numerous, complex, and often interconnected. For some, hearing health care is not affordable. For others, the appropriate services are difficult to access, or individuals do not know how or where to access them. Others may not want to deal with the stigma that they and society may associate with needing hearing health care and obtaining that care. Still others do not recognize they need hearing health care, as hearing loss is an invisible health condition that often worsens gradually over time. In the United States, an estimated 30 million individuals (12.7 percent of Americans ages 12 years or older) have hearing loss. Globally, hearing loss has been identified as the fifth leading cause of years lived with disability. Successful hearing health care enables individuals with hearing loss to have the freedom to communicate in their environments in ways that are culturally appropriate and that preserve their dignity and function. Hearing Health Care for Adults focuses on improving the accessibility and affordability of hearing health care for adults of all ages. This study examines the hearing health care system, with a focus on non-surgical technologies and services, and offers recommendations for improving access to, the affordability of, and the quality of hearing health care for adults of all ages.

In the United States, some populations suffer from far greater disparities in health than others. Those disparities are caused not only by fundamental differences in health status across segments of the population, but also because of inequities in factors that impact health status, so-called determinants of health. The World Health Statistics series is WHO's annual compilation of health statistics for its 194 Member States. The World Health Statistics 2016focuses on the health and health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and associated targets.
