Excerpt from Hygienic Institutes: The Utility of Their Work of Investigation, and the Need of It in This Country Innocuous through successive cultivations in different media, but it may also. By culture in some other animal or in appropriate media, be so attenuated or changed in character as to produce the disease, indeed, but in a milder or perhaps essentially modi fied form, and through the introduction of this less deleterious form of the disease to protect the system for a time against its attacks of a severer character. The efficacy of vaccination is, undoubtedly, due to this.
