Excerpt from How to Become an Efficient Sunday School Teacher Millions of people are asking themselves to-day what can be done by way of bringing up a new generation which Shall despise war and find the very thought of its carnage too revolting to contem plate. Now, it is the position of this text on the Sunday school that well-managed religious training is not by any means to become a complete answer to the question last stated, but that it is to become a Vital part of the whole answer. SO long as we educate by piecemeal we Shall have a fragmentary civilization. Nothing short Of a comprehensive and thoroughly systematic course Of training, such as will meet and direct all the dominant issues of life as they appear to the ever-changing, young indi vidual - nothing short of this program will ever enable us to realize the fullness Of power and supremacy of which a united human race is capable. Excerpt from The Sunday School Teacher The purpose of this book is not strictly pedagogical, but relates rather to the practical work to the Sunday school teacher. Severely trained in the vocation of the secular teacher, afterwards called for many years to the work of a Sunday school specialist, the writer has noted that most of our Sunday school teachers have little time or Inclination for a study of the science of teaching. As busy week day workers in home and office, store and farm, their limitations are such that they cannot hope to compete in pedagogic equipment with those whose life work is to teach. Nor should it be expected of them, in view of the wide differences between the secular and the Sunday school teacher. What the latter needs and covets is the art rather than the science of teaching. This need has been kept steadily in mind in the preparation of this little book, which is the outgrowth of fellowship with hosts of Sunday school teachers whose sincere ambition is to teach skillfully the Holy Scriptures. That it may prove helpful to these faithful servants of the Church is my earnest prayer. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Sunday-School Teacher-Training Y day and by night it is the thought of the great host Of American Sunday-school teachers, many of whom I know and all Of whom I love, that comforts and cheers me in my work. If one can help at all to solve the problem that confronts and hinders them, it will be labor well spent. And behind these teachers now teaching is another even greater host. It is the young people of the church who are to teach and train when we are gone. What can be done for them? If teacher-training means much to the teacher at work, it means much more to the young man or woman whose life work is yet to begin. Excerpt from A Sunday School in Utopia: A Manual of Psychology and Method for the Sunday School Teacher This Book has grown out of the author's experience. For nearly fifteen years he has been directly connected with Religious Education, as Sunday School teacher, Superintendent, Diocesan Director of Religious Education, and Master of Method in a Church Training College for Schoolmasters. Everything that is written has been tested by experience. The title of the Book is suggested by the second part of Mr. E. Holmes' Book - What Is and What Might Be.' In view of the uncertainty of the future of Religious Education in the Day Schools, the author believes that the responsibility thrown upon the Sunday School will be greater in the future than ever before. He believes that England will be what the next generation makes it, and that the next generation will be largely what we make it. Therefore the conscientious Sunday School teacher is to-day performing one of the truest acts of National service. The Book consists of three parts. Parts I and II deal with psychology and pedagogy respectively, and Part III is a short Appendix. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Sunday-School Teacher and the Program of Jesus The following pages have been prepared both for reading and study by Sunday-school teachers and officers. It is hoped that the suggested topics for discussion and the bibliographies appended to the chapters will render the book useful in teacher-training groups. The necessity and value of teacher training is now recognized. One part of the teacher's training needs greater emphasis. This the authors have attempted to supply. It is their hope that many Sunday-school teachers in reading this book will gain a new conception of the teacher's responsibility, and will see more clearly than before the relation of their work to the supreme task of the Christian Church. The authors have collaborated in the entire work. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Training of Sunday School Teachers and Officers The Magnitude of the Demand. Three hundred thousand new teachers and officers will be enlisted within the coming year in the ranks of Sunday school workers. Many of these are young men and women of education, but many more are urged into service with little information or training for the duties before them. While many training schools and classes are offered them through the varied agencies, denominational and interdenominational, yet all of these united fail to meet the need for a trained teaching force. Even were all of these new teachers well equipped, they are not sufficient for the great work. A full half million are needed to meet the responsibilities pressing upon the churches for the religious teach ing of childhood and youth. Within the last three years there has been an increase of one million in enrollment in North America, and even this number could be enlarged by hundreds of thousands if a sufficient number of competent teachers would answer the call of the Church. Childhood, quickened by all the alertness and. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
