But a lot depends on how you define the word sinner. In this book, I define a sinner as someone who has sinned in the past, who knows how to sin, and could sin in the future. That's it. No condemnation and no expectation of future defeat. This is a book about victory over sin. That victory, however, comes with a realistic understanding of what you're capable of. Victory won't happen if you pretend to be someone your not. Victory can happen, though, no matter what the sin is. The freedom of holiness is available in abundance to every Christian. That's what this book is about. What Does It Mean to Be Married to Jesus?Romans 7 tells us that believers have been married to Jesus Christ. This is where we will begin, with a close look at the marriage metaphor that Paul uses in Romans 7:1-6. We will also look at the beginning of Romans 8, where we are told that the law of the Spirit of life in Christ has set us free from the law of sin and death. Before we do that, however, we will look at the Old Testament book of Esther. There is a lesson there that will help us understand Paul's language about the flesh and the Spirit, especially as he uses it in Romans 8. The Work that Was Finished for You and the Work that Continues Within YouWe are not perfect in the way that Jesus was perfect when He walked this earth. We are not as much like Jesus as we could be. We all have room to grow. The good news is that where there is room to grow, God gives the power to grow. This growth comes from paying attention to Jesus, and to the perfect, finished work that He accomplished for us. We get better at living a holy life as we receive the gift of grace that comes through Jesus. As we walk in that grace, we learn that "getting better" is really a matter of dying and living again.

Ryle starts out with the way to achieve holiness and the difficulties that arise with pursuing a holy life, and then going throughout the Bible giving true examples of the cost of holiness and the rewards it brings as the Bible promises us. To often we sing and pray for such a life without being willing to undergo the necessary life changes and adjustments to get there. This book lays out what we can expect in such a journey and what God will ask of each of us to get us to the point He wants us to be.

DOWNLOAD EBOOK →The hole in our holiness is that we don't care much about holiness. Or, at the very least, we don't understand it. And we all have our reasons too: Maybe the pursuit of holiness seems legalistic. Maybe it feels like one more thing to worry about in your already overwhelming life. Maybe the emphasis on effort in the Christian life appears unspiritual. Or maybe you've been trying really hard to be holy and it's just not working! Whatever the case, the problem is clear: too few Christians look like Christ and too many don't seem all that concerned about it. This is a book for those of us who are ready to take holiness seriously, ready to be more like Jesus, ready to live in light of the grace that produces godliness. This is a book about God's power to help us grow in personal holiness and to enjoy the process of transformation.

These are among the questions that have stirred serious believers since the early days of the church, leading to the template of seven sins and their counterparts: seven virtues. How is pride seen in our life, and how is this replaced by the virtue of humility? How does the follower of Jesus grow from anger to patience, from envy to brotherly love? These couplets contrast the nature of a life lived for the glory of self versus a life lived for the glory of God. The foundations of spiritual formation are examined in the first book The Quest for Holiness--From Shallow Belief to Mature Believer, anchoring God's plan for our transformation in his revelation that we are created in his image. Theology is meant to not only be understood but also to be lived out. Thus, this second book delves into the application of spiritual truths into the daily life of a disciple of Jesus, with the purpose that as followers of Jesus we will grow into greater love of God and love of our neighbor."--Publisher.
