WATER dripped from the next cell over, and faint screams echoed off the walls of the dungeon corridor. Rats squeaked and scurried outside the cell door but were too plump to fit through the gap between the cold, stone floor and iron band holding together the rotten, wooden planks of the door. Weak torch light from the hall filtered into the room from the iron grate at the top of the door, but it failed to illuminate the straw littering the chipped and pitted stone floor. Being musty and dank, it did little to alleviate the cold for the one who huddled upon it. Sitting in the corner on the thickest pile of worn-out straw, Salina shivered, arms wrapped around her drawn-up knees. Unable to see the sun in this underground pit of terror, agony, and unimaginable misery, she wasn't sure how long she'd been here. Nine months? Ten?
