1 and 2 Chronicles are the final books of the Hebrew Old Testament. They are more than mere history. They are a God-inspired sermon which explains what God has done, what God is doing and what God is planning to do. They reveal the secrets of spiritual revival in every generation and they fix our eyes on the Messiah. Written centuries before his coming, these two books proclaim a timeless message of hope to the world. It's all about Jesus, the true Son of David, who is the only true Saviour of the world.

From Pinocchio to The Chronicles of Narnia to Charlotte's Web, classic children's tales have shaped generations of young people. In recent years, homeschoolers and new classical schools have put these masterpieces of children's literature at the center of their curricula. And these stories continue to be embraced by parents, students, and educators alike. In Tending the Heart of Virtue, Vigen Guroian illuminates the power of classic tales and their impact on the moral imagination. He demonstrates how these stories teach the virtues through vivid depictions of the struggle between good and evil, while he also unveils components of the good, the true, and the beautiful in plot and character. With clarity and elegance, Guroian reads deeply into the classic stories. He demonstrates how these stories challenge and enliven the moral imaginations of children. And he shows the reader how to get "inside" of classic stories and communicate their lessons to the child. For more than two decades Tending the Heart of Virtue has been embraced by parents, guardians, and teachers for whom the stories it discusses are not only beloved classics but repositories of moral wisdom. This new revised edition includes three new chapters and an expanded annotated bibliography in which Guroian interprets such stories as Hans Christian Andersen's The Ugly Duckling, the Grimms' Cinderella, and John Ruskin's The King of the Golden River.

The author, in view of the coverage of Medicine in his annual bibliography (Elenchus of Biblica 1980-95), was invited to this survey at a Madrid-AIcala summer institute. It is here updated from a 612 item bibliography. Its most notable discovery is that there is no word for brain in the Bible, and the very frequent term generally rendered heart means rather internal organs of cognition and control, largely the functions of the brain, though located vaguely in the stomach-area. The author was then led by the absence of words like brain and (real) heart, also lung, comb, spoon, to a further critical survey of six entirely different approaches to the audacious question, Was biblical Hebrew a language? - all concluding that it was never a used language, but was a scriba) combination of elements from languages really used in the environs. In this it wouid have resembied the Esperanto of many centuries later, except in being probably intended to make less rather than more accessible the contente for which it would have been used. More recently it has been proposed that Ezra's promulgating of his Torah was a maneuvre of Persian overlordship. At any rate the intense scribal activity of this period remains the likeliest background for a Bible-language innovation. But silence about Ezra in Sirach 49,13 leaves open also the period after 130 b.c., at least for insertion of the later books.

This ground-breaking and substantive new history considers Richard's reign from a perspective that is as much French as English. Viewing the king himself as a great military commander, it also shows him as a more competent administrator than previously acknowledged. Modern revisionist work allows the authors to correct many misconceptions about Richard's French possessions, and recent scholarship on his rival, Philip Augustus, permits examination of the formidable threat that the resurgent Capetian monarchy represented.
