The Kingdom of Hatred is about many things. It covers the author's views on love, hatred, life, death, peace, war, success, failure, excellence, mediocrity, and many more, all of which are connected to a central concept: the Kingdom of Hatred. All that is discussed in this mix between a treatise, a speculum, and a journal is relative to the central concept given in the title of the book. It tells a story of a journey from start to finish, and at the same time is both personal and advisory to the reader. The book is unique in its dynamic style and prose: some chapters are written like poems, others like scholarly articles even. Some chapters are merely a few lines in length, others, pages upon pages. The Kingdom of Hatred is the first book written by the author. It had no editors and no reviewers. No one saw the book before it was published. All the editing and revision was done individually by the author; it is a very personal work in that regard.

In the kingdom of hatred, heavy hangs the name, by some an even grosser name, but its still all the same. The distress is how capably hatred and envy destroy the weak, while their golden words only varnish what lies beneath. The fire that blazes is by those who have committed such horrors and find no punishment, nor guilt. Life has become a path of thorns and thistles, and we try hard not to feel the stings. But in truth, we praise God for the good and blame the devil for the bad, while no one accepts blame for ones actions, unless theyre good. They all claim theyre suffering, but are blind to others; we close our eyes and hope it all goes away, knowing that deeds speak louder than words. The passage of proof lies within each one of us; we make our own salvation or damnation in the hatred kingdom.

Ethnic conflict has been the driving force of wars all over the world, yet it remains an enigma. What is it about ethnicity that breaks countries apart and drives people to acts of savage violence against their lifelong neighbors? Stuart Kaufman rejects the notion of permanent "ancient hatreds" as the answer. Dissatisfied as well with a purely rationalist explanation, he finds the roots of ethnic violence in myths and symbols, the stories ethnic groups tell about who they are. Ethnic wars, Kaufman argues, result from the politics of these myths and symbols—appeals to flags and faded glories that aim to stir emotions rather than to address interests. Popular hostility based on these myths impels groups to follow extremist leaders invoking such emotion-laden ethnic symbols. If ethnic domination becomes their goal, ethnic war is the likely result. Kaufman examines contemporary ethnic wars in the Caucasus and southeastern Europe. Drawing on information from a variety of sources, including visits to the regions and dozens of personal interviews, he demonstrates that diplomacy and economic incentives are not enough to prevent or end ethnic wars. The key to real conflict resolution is peacebuilding—the often-overlooked effort by nongovernmental organizations to change hostile attitudes at both the elite and the grassroots levels.

A United Nations insider exposes how anti-American and antidemocratic forces have hijacked the UN and put America and its allies at risk Politicians and pundits are imploring the United States to give the UN a major role in American foreign policy. But as bestselling author Dore Gold reveals in Tower of Babble, it is absurd to look to the UN to fight aggression, combat terrorism, and preserve global order. The UN is an abject failure—a fatally flawed organization that has actually accelerated and spread global chaos. And it is dominated by anti-Western forces, dictatorships, state sponsors of terrorism, and America’s worst enemies. In his New York Times bestseller Hatred’s Kingdom, Gold blew the lid off Saudi support for terrorism, and now he uncovers an even more important story. As a former UN ambassador, he has a unique insider’s perspective on why the UN fails to address—or in many cases exacerbates—the very problems it was created to solve. He shows how President Franklin Roosevelt’s great vision has been corrupted beyond recognition. Using internal UN documents and classified cables, Gold presents stark evidence of how the UN ignores mass murder, emboldens terrorists, props up dictators, and otherwise betrays its mission to protect the world’s security. Tower of Babble reveals: • Why America can—and indeed must—go outside the UN to address the most serious threats to national security • How the UN jeopardizes the success of the war on terror—and how terrorist groups have actually penetrated UN organizations • How, in the space of a year, the UN turned a blind eye to two horrifying episodes of mass murder—and why the slaughters could have been prevented • How the oil-for-food scandal only hints at the UN’s repeated failures to deal with Saddam Hussein’s Iraq • How the UN’s new international criminal court threatens America’s sovereignty • How the UN’s startling record of failure has led Presidents Truman, Kennedy, Johnson, Clinton, and George W. Bush to bypass the UN Security Council As this hard-hitting book reveals, it is, quite simply, a myth that the United Nations is a positive force for world order or the “sole source of international legitimacy.” And unless the United States and its allies recognize this now, they will continue to put themselves at risk. "Dore Gold's book is informed and informative. It can be read with pleasure and profit by anyone with a genuine interest in the United Nations. I warmly recommend it."--Jeane J. Kirkpatrick, former Ambassador to the United Nations "For anyone wondering what's wrong with the United Nations, this is the book to read. Providing both a concise history and an urgent warning for our own time, Dore Gold in clear and lively detail explains how and why the UN too often promotes not peace, but problems--and what we can do about it."--Claudia Rosett, columnist, the Wall Street Journal's Opinionjournal.com "Dore Gold's Tower of Babble is bound to be one of the most controversial critiques in the public debate on the UN."--Henry Kissinger, Former Secretary of State
