Abstract: Precise guidelines for the design and development of individualized instruction curriculum materials from rigorously defined behavioral objectives are presented. With the guidelines an educator can identify all objectives appropriate for an instructional unit, define a procedure to order the objectives into an educational sequence, and determine how to communicate specifications to teachers and curriculum writers. The Drumheller Model is based on the Bloom Taxonomy of Educational Objectives. Exercises are included.

Curriculum design options cover a continuum from regional and school-based programs to national and international frameworks. How does policy speak to practice? What have teacher-researchers discovered through in-classroom studies? Where do you begin to describe or measure ‘effective’ language education curriculum design? The Routledge Handbook of Language Education Curriculum Design presents a comprehensive collection of essays on these issues by 31 established practitioners and new researchers. Informed by experienced scholarship and fresh studies, this handbook shares international perspectives on language education from policy and curriculum to teacher training and future directions. The handbook addresses language education curriculum design across five sections: Language curriculum design: perspectives, policies and practices Designs across the curriculum Curriculum designs in language education Curriculum resources, evaluation and assessment Teacher education, research and future projects With contributions from Australia, Brazil, Indonesia, Switzerland, Timor-Leste and more, the handbook represents the breadth of research into and the global implications for sound language education curriculum design. It considers equally the needs of students and policy makers from urban metropolises and remote communities. It is designed to reinvigorate discussions about education policy, curriculum management and the role of teacher-researchers.

The recent passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) presents new opportunities and greater flexibility in efforts to personalize learning for all children. The Handbook on Personalized Learning for States, Districts, and Schools provides insight and guidance on maximizing that new flexibility. Produced by the Center on Innovations in Learning (CIL), one of seven national content centers funded by the U.S. Department of Education, this volume suggests how teachers can enhance personalized learning by cultivating relationships with students and their families to better understand a child’s learning and motivation. Personalized learning also encourages the development of students’ metacognitive, social, and emotional competencies, thereby fostering students’ self?direction in their own education, one aimed at mastery of knowledge and skills and readiness for career and college. Chapters address topics across the landscape of personalized learning, including co?designing instruction and learning pathways with students; variation in the time, place, and pace of learning, including flipped and blended classrooms; and using technology to manage and analyze the learning process. The Handbook’s chapters include Action Principles to guide states, districts, and schools in personalizing learning.

Abstract: The main goal of an Individual Learning Package (ILP) is to assist teachers in creating learning environments that are more humanized. ILP's should permit students to learn at their own unique rates, to have alternative ways to meet stated goals, to plan their own learning sequences, and to be successful with varying levels of self-initiative and self-direction. Presenting the ILP approach to instructional management through curriculum design, the curriculum components are: what will be learned (concept, skill and value statements), what changes will occur (learning objectives), what will facilitate those changes (IL materials and activities), how evaluation can help (pre-,self- and post-evaluation), and finally, future goals. Organizing the ILP components and evaluating for ILP improvement are discussed.
