When Lucy comes across some old family pictures, she has a lot of questions for Papa Joe. Who are these people? Why doesn't she look like them? As Papa Joe tells Lucy about her family, he shares with her the uniqueness that God created in each of us from the very beginning, all the way back to our first ancestors, Adam and Eve. What follows is a wild adventure through the Bible, where Lucy and her papa discover God's love and faithfulness for all people throughout all of history. In this second book in the Questions for Kids series, discover how much God loves diversity and how God created your family in the most beautiful and perfect way. What Others Are Saying... Karen weaves into this book the story of creation and the important message that even though we may have different skin colors or look different, we all come from the first family, Adam and Eve. In this day and age when racial tensions run high at times, this is a very needed message for our children to hear. I highly recommend Guess Who Is in God's Family! Kris Cox, Educational Consultant, speaker, and author Guess Who Is in God's Family is a beautifully written exchange between Lucy and her Papa Joe as he answers Lucy's questions about her family members who came before. If you have children or grandchildren, this is a beautiful story with a valuable message of love! Leslie Colburn, Author and founder of Cross My Heart Books In Guess Who Is in God's Family, Lucy and her grandpa go on a Bible adventure to the Garden of Eden to discover where the very first family began. The story accurately depicts how sin entered the world, but also foreshadows God's master plan to redeem mankind. Kids will love reading this book as well as the first and will look forward to new adventures with Lucy and her grandpa in the future. Sandra Kay Chambers, Author of Fingerprint Devotions: 40 Devotions to Help You Realize You Are a Kid Uniquely Created by God for a Purpose Guess Who Is in God's Family uncovers how it all began with the first family and the bite that changed everything. This book and the ones to come will be such useful tools in laying a foundation of truth for our children who, like Lucy, have so many questions! Hurting people ask heart-felt questions about God and suffering. Some "answers" they receive appeal to mystery: “God’s ways are not our ways”. Some answers say God allows evil for a greater purpose. Some say evil is God's punishment. The usual answers fail. They don't support the truth that God loves everyone all the time. God Can't gives a believable answer to why a good and powerful God doesn't prevent evil. Author Thomas Jay Oord says God’s love is inherently uncontrolling. God loves everyone and everything, so God can't control anyone or anything. This means God cannot prevent evil singlehandedly. God can’t stop evildoers, whether human, animal, organism, or inanimate objects and forces. In God Can't, Oord gives a plausible reason why some are healed, but many others are not. God always works to heal everyone, but sometimes our bodies, organisms, or other creatures do not cooperate with God's healing work. Or the conditions of creation are not right for the healing God wants to do. Some people think God causes or allows suffering to teach us lessons or build our character. God Can't disagrees. Oord says God squeezes good from the evil God didn’t want in the first place. God uses pain and suffering without willing or even allowing it. Most people think God can overcome evil singlehandedly. In God Can't, Oord says God needs cooperation for love to reign now and later. This leads to a better view of the afterlife called “relentless love.” It rejects traditional ideas of heaven, hell, and annihilation. Relentless love holds to the possibility all creatures and all creation will respond to God’s love. God Can't is written in understandable language. As a world-renown theologian, Thomas Jay Oord brings credibility to the book’s radical ideas. He explains these ideas through true stories, illustrations, and scripture. God Can't is for those who want answers to tragedy, abuse, and other evils that make sense! What They're Saying... “If conventional notions of God make less and less sense to you, you’ll find Thomas Jay Oord’s new book a breath of fresh air. Simply put, “God Can’t” presents an understanding of God that thoughtful, ethical people can believe in.” -- Brian D. McLaren, author of The Great Spiritual Migration "I did not want this book to end. I wish Dr. Oord had written it 100 years ago, or 1000 years ago... To find your understanding of life and your love for God renewed, read this book." -- Dr. Karen Strand Winslow, Ph.D., Biblical and Jewish Studies Professor of Bible, Azusa Pacific University "As a clinical psychologist working with people in trauma, I owe Thomas Jay Oord an enormous debt of gratitude for recasting the so-called problem of evil in terms that are conceptually satisfying, theologically consistent, and pastorally liberating.” -- Dr Roger Bretherton- Principal Lecturer at the University of Lincoln (UK), Chair of the British Association of Christians in Psychology “Victims of trauma sometimes hear theological responses that imply their suffering is somehow “God’s will." A more careful theological reflection on the nature of the power of a God who is love can help. Oord gives us a clear and compelling alternative in this profoundly insightful and admirably concrete and accessible book.” -- Dr. Anna Case-Winters, Professor of Theology at McCormick Theological Seminary “I know of no book that speaks to suffering with the depth of theological sophistication and psychological sensitivity as God Can’t. This book is a rare combination of depth and accessibility, truly written for the wounded. I recommend it to my students, parishioners, and therapy clients.” -- Dr. Brad D. Strawn, Professor of the Integration of Psychology and Theology, Fuller Theological Seminary

Trust is vital for living in these days. I believe the sin of mistrusting God is the fountainhead of our modern malaise. Imagine that God desires to take us humans to the place where each of us desires to go-the place of trust. The promises connected to trusting God are both innumerable and immeasurable. I write this volume in hopes of spurring the believer who has settled for an uneventful life while claiming love and allegiance to the Lord. I am in hopes that the person who is just going through the motions of religious life can catch a glimpse of what God has in store for him or her. Most of us really think we are trusting God, when in fact, we are leaning on our own understanding. This book will teach you the benefits and blessings of trusting God. -Larry Ellis, from the Introduction

The south side of Billsview, Texas, is a part of the city that has a bad reputation of being called labels such as ghetto and hood. A lot of the city’s poverty, government aid, and crime occur in the south part of the city. David Williams is a former high school football All-American local legend who experienced a setback but rebounded in the US Army, which led to him being an Army Ranger who was awarded the Medal of Honor. After getting wounded and medically discharged against his will, he came back to his mother’s house to keep his younger siblings—RJ, Ashely, and Mya—in line and on the right path. With a mother who does not seem to care about her children and a father who none of David’s siblings have seen before, David wants to please God while keeping his siblings away from the devil’s seductions of illegal activity, gangs, drugs, teenage pregnancy, and STDs. He wants them all to graduate high school, go to college, and make it out of the south side of town that he blames for ruining so many young lives as he blames it for almost ruining his own.

Do you long for something more in your relationship with God? The good news is that “something more” does not mean “doing more.” God is not waiting for you to get your spiritual life “right.” He wants to be with you right where you are. The real question is not “What does God want from you?” but “What does God want for you?” Sharon Jaynes understands what it’s like to have a “glory ache”—a longing to experience God’s presence on a daily basis. She also knows how easily working for God can get in the way of intimacy with God. And she’s discovered that we tend to make our faith journey much too hard. In A Sudden Glory, Sharon uses Scripture and story to help you erase the line between your “spiritual life” and your “daily life” as you enter the sanctuary of God’s presence even in the middle of your busy, messy day. Here you will find your eyes opened to moments of sudden glory in which the Creator assures you of His love as you live and move and have your being in Him. Here you will discover true freedom—the freedom of experiencing God in a deeper and more intimate way than ever before. Includes Bible study and discussion guide.
