The book, Genois Wilson, Firefighter: She Dared To Be First is meant to be an inspiration to both young girls and young boys to encourage them to strive for their dreams, no matter what they are. The story follows the career of Genois Wilson Brabson who became the first female firefighter in the City of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Although there may not be many more opportunities for more “firsts” in the world, Mrs. Brabson’s experience led to the success she achieved during her career with the Fort Wayne Fire Department. Genois studied hard, worked hard, and believed in her dream. She was also ready physically and emotionally ready to take on Chief Lorraine’s challenge! She retired in 1995 from the Fire Department as District Chief of Public Education. In 1975 Genois Wilson Brabson was a true trailblazer. After thirty-seven years, in 2012, the City of Fort Wayne named Amy Biggs as its first female Fire Chief.

A veteran firefighter paramedic, well-schooled in fire history, travels back in time to observe some of America's greatest fires. "Stand back, observe and don't get involved, " he is directed. Telling a seasoned firefighter to not get involved is like urging a rabid dog to please not bite. The disease is in the dog's blood, it's mind, it's soul ... it has no choice but to bite. Firefighters throughout history have been smitten with their own unique bug, fueled by compassion for others and the thrill of the fight. Scott McLean is no different. Like firefighters everywhere, he is a different breed of dog. He cares too much to be at bystander and craves the action too much to watch others battle the beast without him. Firefighting is in his blood, his mind, his soul ... Scott has no choice.

Magnus lives and works at the Broadway Firehouse. He knows that when the fire alarm clangs, he and his partners, Billy and Sparks, are supposed to spring into action. Without them the firemen would never be able to move the gigantic steam pumper. And without a pumper the crew wouldn't be able to put out fires. Then one day the captain drives into the firehouse on a loud, newfangled contraption called a motorized fire truck. It doesn't need horses to pull it to a fire. So just like that, Magnus, Sparks, and Billy are out of a job. A little history, a little humor, and a whole lot of heart are artfully blended in this rousing tale of one high-spirited horse who can't accept being put out to pasture. And thank goodness! Because it's this steadfast sense of duty that ultimately saves the day.

Between 2007 and 2012 the Department for Underwater Archaeology of the Croatian Conservation Institute from Zagreb and the Department of Humanistic Studies of the Ca' Foscari University of Venice collaborated in the recording, underwater excavation and analysis of the unusually well-preserved wreck of a 16th century Venetian merchantman in the Svetti Pavao shallow off the southern shore of the island of Mljet, Croatia. The shipwreck preserved many personal possessions of the crew as well as a number of bronze artillery pieces and the remains of a cargo of luxury and richly decorated ceramic material from Iznik and other oriental workshops. Although the excavation is not complete, this volume presents the results of the project so far. The methodological and technical aspects of the underwater investigation of the site, mainly by photogrammetry, are described; the historical and archaeological context of navigation in the late Medieval period in the eastern Mediterranean discussed; and the recovered artefacts described and catalogued in detail, together with the remains of the ship and its equipment that, because of depth and of problems of conservation, have been left in situ. The conservation and restoration of the finds are described in an appendix.
