This book discusses some applications of Generalized Nets (GNs). They include the functioning and results of the work of expert systems, flexible manufacturing systems, neuron networks, computers, medical, transportational, chemical and other processes. Processes can be simulated, controlled and optimized on the basis of these GNs. A program package for GNs (PPGN) is described.

The Generalized Nets (GNs) are extensions of Petri nets and of different Petri nets modifications, introduced by the author (1982). In the book, definitions and the basic properties of GNs are given. The GNs extensions and reductions are discussed. GNs, which describe the functioning and results of the work of different types of petri nets, different types of finite automata and of Turing machines, are given. Over the GNs are defined different operations, relations and operators. They can also be transferred onto other nets. Many open problems in the GNs theory are given.

The book offers a comprehensive and timely overview of advanced mathematical tools for both uncertainty analysis and modeling of parallel processes, with a special emphasis on intuitionistic fuzzy sets and generalized nets. The different chapters, written by active researchers in their respective areas, are structured to provide a coherent picture of this interdisciplinary yet still evolving field of science. They describe key tools and give practical insights into and research perspectives on the use of Atanassov's intuitionistic fuzzy sets and logic, and generalized nets for describing and dealing with uncertainty in different areas of science, technology and business, in a single, to date unique book. Here, readers find theoretical chapters, dealing with intuitionistic fuzzy operators, membership functions and algorithms, among other topics, as well as application-oriented chapters, reporting on the implementation of methods and relevant case studies in management science, the IT industry, medicine and/or education. With this book, the editors wish to pay homage to Professor Krassimir Todorov Atanassov for his pioneering work on both generalized nets and intuitionistic fuzzy set.

This book presents a broad variety of different contemporary IT methods and applications in Intelligent Systems is displayed. Every book chapter represents a detailed, specific, far reaching and original re-search in a respective scientific and practical field. However, all of the chapters share the common point of strong similarity in a sense of being innovative, applicable and mutually compatible with each other. In other words, the methods from the different chapters can be viewed as bricks for building the next generation “thinking machines” as well as for other futuristic logical applications that are rapidly changing our world nowadays.
