Excerpt from Genealogy of the Brownings in America From 1621 to 1908 In this age of enlightenment and civilization, no one is without love for his parents, brothers and sisters, or without regard for his near relatives and kins folk; and very few are without esteem and reverence for their ancestors, no mat ter how distant their connection. Among some nations, as for instance the Chinese, this feeling amounts to ancestral worship. It is this respect and interest which has led me to write the genealogy of my own family and of all the Brownings who have come to America, so far as I have been able to ascertain their history. I have also included the genealogy of one of the greatest, if not the greatest of English poets, Robert Browning, who has a world - wide reputation for his learning and poetic genius. A “lively, intelligently rendered account” of a tabloid romance, scandalous divorce and the rise of yellow journalism in Gilded Age New York (Kirkus Reviews). Edward “Daddy” Browning was a famously eccentric millionaire when he crossed paths with fifteen-year-old shop clerk and aspiring flapper Frances Heenan at the Hotel McAlpin. Frances reminded Daddy of peaches and cream—and a scandalous romance began. Thirty-seven days later, amid headlines announcing the event and with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children in close pursuit, Peaches and Daddy were married. Within ten months they would begin a courtroom drama that would blow their impassioned saga into a national scandal. Peaches & Daddy vividly recounts the amazing and improbable romance, marriage, and ultimate legal battle for separation of this publicity-craving Manhattan couple in America’s “Era of Wonderful Nonsense.” Their story is one of dysfunction and remarkable excess; yet at the time, the lurid details of their brief courtship and marriage captured the imagination of the American public like no other story of its day.

Excerpt from Genealogy of the Blish Family in America, 1637-1905 The records in this book represent some fifteen years of intermittent searching and correspondence. In the hundreds of names and dates, which have been copied and re-copied, there are doubtless errors, some of which have already been discovered and noted in the list of "Additions and Corrections" at the end of the work. No attempt has been made to trace the Blish Hues beyond the shores of America, and while I have examined all known sources of information, I make no claim that the history is full. A few, whose lines are incomplete, are included for future reference. In the old records the name is frequently spelled "Blush," but the correct spelling is undoubtedly "Blish." The name is so spelled in the will of the first Abraham, recorded at Plymouth, and in all wills and deeds the name is uniformly "Blish," with the exception of a few of the descendants of Joseph (47) who spell it "Blush." There is a Blish coat of arms, but it is of so doubtful authenticity, that I have not used it. The plan of the work is simple and obvious. Each name is given a distinct number, which appears first in the margin before the names of the children in each family. This number is repeated, in larger type, type, at the head of each family. The number of the generation, counting from Abraham Blish, is indicated by a small figure at the end of the given name. A plus sign (+) before a name indicates that it is carried forward. All known record authorities are given in the body of the work or at the end of each family. Attention is called to the additional notes upon the Fuller, Hull, Lothropp and Jones families. All of the descendants of Joseph Blish (3) trace to the Rev. Joseph Hull, and all of the descendants of Tristram Blish (14 )to Edward and Samuel Fuller of the Mayflower, the Rev. John Lothropp and Dr. Matthew Fuller of Barnstable. Attention is also called to the Table of Abbreviations and the Glossary of Obscure Words. I would be pleased to be informed of any errors in the work, and to correspond with any person interested in the family directly or collaterally, as my investigations will not end with the publication of this book.
