Excerpt from Frank Merriwell Down South The man who lay on a bed of grass in one corner of the wretched adobe hut turned a reproachful look on the little professor. You are wrong, he asserted, in a voice that seemed to have gained strength for the moment. I am not de ranged - I am not deceived by an hallucination. With my eyes I have seen the wonderful Silver Palace - yes, more than that, I have stood within the palace and beheld the marvelous treasures which it contains. Frank and Dick Merriwell are main protagontist of Standish's series of adventure novels and short stories. They are half-brothers, but there is a marked difference between them. Frank usually handles challenges on his own while Dick has mysterious friends and skills that help him. Excerpt from Frank Merriwell's False Friend: A Story for Boys Yale was in perplexity and distress. Where was Merriwell? That question created all the trouble. He had obtained permission to leave a few days on important business, but the "few days" had lengthened into many and still he remained away. He was needed at Yale, for he had been chosen captain of the baseball-team, and the men were in training for the Easter trip to the South. His absence and the uncertainty of his return seemed to have a most baleful influence upon them, for they failed to turn out with enthusiasm for work in the cage, and they plainly lacked the needed spirit that year after year has led Yale gladiators to stand ready to sacrifice anything and everything, but honor, for the glory of Old Eli. The coaches were in despair, for never before had they handled such indifferent material. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
