There are many books written for the Piano, Violin, etc., entirely devoted to Technic. This Work is especially written to enable the Student, by practice and application, to overcome any obstacle which may occur in musical passages written for the Cornet. By controlling the Wind Power to play these Exercises as written, in one breath, the Student will acquire ENDURANCE without strain or injury. Train the Muscles which control the Lips, to make them elastic and strong, as only a slight pressure is necessary, and not brute force. The highest as well as the lowest notes can be played with equal tone quality if practiced according to the instructions that precede each Study. Every Cornet Player should have reached a degree of excellence before attempting to play these Exercises. To become an Expert on the Cornet, one should be familiar with as many Cornet Methods as possible, and so gain the experience of each. Every Exercise in this Book is possible, and not so very difficult if practiced slowly at first, and not too long at a time. I have used them for my daily practice for years, and they have been the means of my reaching the highest notes after playing a two-hour Concert, also of preserving my lips so that they never tire, and what has been a help to me is surely good for other Cornet Players. You cannot expect to attain the highest point of excellence without hard work and perseverance. Never be perfectly satisfied with yourself. Try to make some improvement each day, feeling that it is a pleasure to have conquered that which seemed an impossibility at first. Do not neglect to correct immediately the least fault you make. Bad habits are easily formed, but are difficult to remedy. There are few Celebrated Cornet Soloists, although thousands play the instrument. Most players abuse their practicing by not knowing the proper way, and neglecting to pay more attention to the elementary work. These Studies have been found to be excellent for Clarinet Players as well as Cornet Players. The Clarinet being a Wind Instrument also, all these Exercises will appeal to the Player of that Instrument by following the same instructions.

Go With the Flow for Trumpet by Eddie Lewis includes twenty-one original flow study etudes tailored to be used with the Daily Routines book. With three etudes for each of the seven levels of the Daily Routine book, the Go With the Flow book begins with simple quarter-note and half-note flow studies limited in range to tuning note C. It progresses to advanced flow study etudes which cover a full professional range. The etudes systematically cover all twelve keys and a variety of time signatures. While the Go With the Flow book was originally intended to be used as a supplement to the more popular Daily Routines, it is also used by some trumpet players as a more musical alternative to a physical trumpet warm-up. Flow studies are a trumpet tradition rooted in the teaching of cornetist Herbert L. Clarke who taught them as moving long tones. They feature mostly step wise motion and are primarily slurred. The purpose of practicing flow studies is to develop greater control of the air-stream.

Comprehensive Studies and Etudes for Intermediate and Advancing Trumpet Players by Kenneth Baird Bridging the gap between intermediate band method books and standard advanced trumpet pedagogical material. 50 Pages of Scale and Arpeggio Studies Tone and Flow Studies Warm-ups Interval Studies Flexibility Studies Clarke-inspired Technical Studies Articulation Studies (including double and triple tonguing) Range Building Jazz Swing-Style Basics Vocalises (Lyrical Studies) Traditional Melodies Melodies from Symphonic Composers 64 Original Etudes Designed to bridge the gap between standard intermediate band method books and standard advanced trumpet pedagogical material, Comprehensive Studies and Etudes for Intermediate and Advancing Trumpet Players focuses on developing mastery in the keys and instrument range of what an intermediate player is likely to encounter in his or her everyday playing. The keys covered here in detail range from those with three flats to those with three sharps. Keys with more than three sharps or flats are only very briefly touched upon. In addition to major, minor and chromatic scales, studies on pentatonic and blues scales are also included. *Note: The book "Scales, Arpeggios, and Beneficial Studies for Intermediate Trumpet Players, 2nd Edition" by this author is included in the contents of this book. Even the best band method books often lack sufficient material targeting the mastery of scales and arpeggios, and sometimes what they provide has been compromised so as to enable all the instruments of the band to play together simultaneously. Additionally, band method books often do not adequately cover certain techniques that are specific to brass instruments, nor do they adequately include the type of lyrical melodies that are best for developing individual musical expression and characteristic vibrato. This book is provided to fill in those gaps. It is my hope that your musicianship and mastery of the trumpet will be greatly enhanced and accelerated through diligent practice of what is provided here.

One of the best ways to grow as a musician is to emulate the great masters of your instrument. In this volume of Long Tone Duets, trombone players have the opportunity to improve by playing along with Ralph Sauer, long time principal trombonist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. This edition not only captures Mr. Sauer's sound on an included CD, but also reflects some of his teaching ideas embedded in the duets. By playing along with the CD, you can match Mr. Sauer's clear tone, exquisite intonation, and superb articulation.
