Excerpt from Seventy-Third and Final Report of the Commissioner of the Land Office of the State of Michigan for the Six Months Ending December 31, 1914 Act 168 Public Acts of 1859 made an appropriation of all unentered swamp lands in township six (6) north, ranges fourteen (14) and fifteen (15) west, to aid in the improvement of the harbor at the mouth of the Little Black River in the county of Ottawa, and it was provided therein that a like amount of swamp land in the Lower Peninsula should be set off, the proceeds of the same when sold to be paid over to the credit of the primary school fund. The number of acres awarded on the contracts for the said improvement are included in the statement of land sold for Scrip. The plat sales book of this office show that five thousand, five hundred five and 56/ 100 acres were set off in accordance with this act, all of which were sold for cash at per acre and the proceeds paid in to the credit of the primary school fund. A grant was made to the german-american Seminary of certain lands in Huron county upon the condition that the same should be drained and so reclaimed as to be made fit for cultivation.
