This unique Handbook explores the role of government in the development of entrepreneurship in countries where twenty years ago private enterprise was illegal or barely tolerated. The expert contributors reveal that government policy is one of the key influences on the external environment in which businesses develop, particularly in countries where it has been necessary to redefine the role of the state in relation to business development. They outline how government policy can also act as an enabling and/or a constraining force with respect to entrepreneurship development, particularly in relation to institutional change and the development of a market-based economy. This Handbook includes up-to-date information and analysis as to how entrepreneurship policies have evolved in the wider Europe, focusing on the challenges that arise in designing and implementing entrepreneurship policy. The Handbook of Research on Entrepreneurship Policies in Central and Eastern Europe excellently covers different facets of entrepreneurship policies in Central and Eastern Europe and will prove invaluable for academics, students and researchers of entrepreneurship and small business as well as policy studies. Policy makers will also find plenty of key insights and relevant information in this important resource.

Structural Funds (in particular the ESF and the ERDF) have an important role to play in supporting concrete projects aiming to enhance the entrepreneurial mindsets, skills and attitudes of young people. However, so far not in all EU Member States this opportunity has been fully exploited. This document intends therefore to provide an indication of actions that could be usefully taken in all countries and in all regions with the support of European Structural Funds. It presents : a) The general rationale and status of Entrepreneurship Education in the EU. b) A progression model on how to develop and implement various stages of evolution of Enterpreneurship Education Policy. c) A number of good practice examples to inspire projects for the Structural Fund Operating Plans (OPs) These examples can be found both in the illustrative boxes of Chapter 4 as well as in the Annex. This guide is mainly based on the work that the Commission carried out in the last five years - in close cooperation with national authorities - to promote education for entrepreneurship at school and university, with a particular focus on supporting the implementation of national strategies in this area.

This report captures all the latest developments in this regard in European countries, following earlier Eurydice reports (2006, 2012). It covers school education (primary, general secondary and school-based IVET) in all Eurydice network countries/regions, except Germany, Ireland and Liechtenstein. The sections below summarise the main findings of the report, focusing notably on the national definitions and contextual indicators (see Chapter 1) as well as on strategic actions and funding mechanisms that support entrepreneurship education (see Chapter 2). The report also looks at integration of entrepreneurship education into national school curricula and learning outcomes (see Chapter 3) as well as the curricula of initial and continuing teacher education (see Chapter 4). Finally, the last chapter (Chapter 5) provides an overview of the elements that European countries have already put in place as well as those that need to be further developed in order to make advances in this field.
