Bajo este punto de vista no es un servicio par ticular a Cuba el que ha prestado el autor, sino que en lo adelante cuantos cultiven la caña de azúcar, en los dife rentes paises en que se ha aclimatado, tendrán un codi go y nu guía seguro en el Ensayo para mejorar y pro gresar en su industria. Este libro ocupará desde luego un puesto oficial en la ciencia, pues todas las tentativas que le han precedido, si bien algunas hay de no escaso valer, carecen del método y de la unidad de concepcion y de ejecucion, que son los que aseguran reputacion du radera a las obras del espíritu humano. Además que cuando fué escrita la mayor parte de esos trabajos, no estaba, como hoy, constituida la accion agronómica, ni sus autores reunían el caudal de conocimientos en las ciencias naturales, físicas y químicas, que tanto ha ser vido al Sr. Reynoso para llevar a cabo sus importantes investigaciones sobre la caña de azúcar.
