The sole objective of this Encyclopaedia is to present ethnographical descriptions of the Brahmana s castes and sub-castes of India. The task which we have performed here is, no doubt, beset with difficulties but we shall consider our labour amply rewarded if this monumental work is found useful by scholars and readers of ethnic study of the Brahman communities of India. We are highly grateful to all those scholars whose works have been producedin this encyclopaedia. We are also thankful to the scholars and staff of Anthropological Survey of India for their moral and intellectual support in compilation of this monumental work.
