The military services provided data and accompanyiṅg materials pursuant to a request from the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness. The RAND Corporation was asked to provide assistance in responding to the Congressional mandate by summarizing trends in accession and various outcomes of interest for the entry cohorts as a whole and for subgroups of interest. The study was a short-term effort and limited in scope to descriptive analyses.
