We have endeavored to follow, as near as possible, an alphabetical arrangement, and in those cases where a flower is better known by its popular than by its botanic name, we have placed the former, which we trust will be satisfactory. To those of our friends who prefer to leave the selection of their seeds to us, we would recommend our Assortments on page 8, which will be found to embrace only such sorts as are of real merit, and every way worthy of cultivation. Between 1850 and 1880, Americans of all ranks and circumstances planted shade trees, cultivated flower gardens, and established lawns with a new found enthusiasm that both astonished and delighted horticultural advocates.
