It is recognized by dairy plant managers as an important means for improving and maintaining sound Operations including plant, processing equipment, processing and packaging procedures, sanitary practices, and quality programs for raw materials to help assure that their products will be of uniform high quality, will meet specific grade or contract requirements, and will have good keeping quality. Included in this publication are the names of plants (indicated by asterisks that use usda dairy products grading and quality control services on a full-time (resident basis. This program offers on-the-spot official grading, laboratory testing and quality control, and plant survey services. In addition, it makes available to the plant manager the technical know; how and experience of the inspection and grading supervisory staff, including laboratory chemists and bacteriologists, to help solve quality control problems. Plant survey and resident grading and quality control services are available on a voluntary basis, and fees are charged to cover costs. Managers of dairy plants or other interested parties may obtain information about these services by contacting the Inspection and Grading Branch area office nearest them.
