Excerpt from Critical and Explanatory Notes, on Many Passages in the New Testament, Which to Common Readers Are Hard to Be Understood: Also, an Illustration, of the Genuine Beauty and Force of Several Other Passages The reflecting reader will probably think of many other passages in the New Testament, which need some elucidation beside those inserted in the present Work. The author has confined himself to such as appeared to him most important to be explained. With the Apocalypse of St. John he has had but little concern and for two reasons: almost the whole of that book is to an unusual degree symbolical, and of course very difficult to be explained, with any de sirable precision, until the great events therein sym bolized, shall have taken place. Besides, the expla nation of it, even if practicable, would comprize such a vast body of historical facts, &c. That it could not be admitted within the designed limits of the present manual. Acts of the Apostles is a pivotal book in New Testament studies, giving us information about how the Church began and developed in those key years after the ascension and glorification of Jesus. This is a great resource for the study of Acts and has been adapted in many Bible colleges as a textbook. The Bible notes are excellent and clear, and the numerous special studies bring valuable information to the forefront that seldom makes it into a single volume.
