Excerpt from Civil Government for the Philippine Islands: Speech of Hon. Julius C. Burrows, of Michigan, in the Senate of the United States, Wednesday, May 28, 1902 From this table it appears that on the 3lst day of May, 1901, there were 469 military stations in the Philippine Islands, and on the loth of May. 1902, there were only 245 stations or posts, a te duction, as it will be seen, in a single year of 224 stations. Let me state further in this connection that of these 245 posts existing today, 55 are in the disturbed provinces of Samar and Batangas. Leaving but 190 milita posts outside these provinces to keep the ace and preserve or er in the entire archipelago.
