Excerpt from Catalogue of the Snow Collection of Modern Silver Medals and Coins, With a Copious Appendix: In the Latter Will Be Found an Interesting Variety of American and Foreign Copper Coins and Medals, Cut Stones, Jewelry, and Gems The rare and interesting medal of Henry IV. Of France, struck to commemorate the battle of Ivry, was brought to this country by Mr. Barthold, of Baltimore, who died many years ago, The many beautiful coins and medals of Mexican mint were from the Collection of Brantz Mayer, Esq., who had been a member of the American Legation to Mexico before the war, and author of a valuable work on that country. Those who have the names of purchasers at the Mickley sale, may see how many valuable coins Mr. Snow derived from that source; and when I add that Mr. Edward Cogan was for years a caterer for the same Collection, its variety will have been sufficiently sug gested. The number of pieces is not large, but they are generally as fine as possible. They have been catalogued with the most scrupulous care my son, who has done most of the work, having referred every doubtful question to gentlemen of experience in the profession.
