Copies of them being kept in the office of the Board but the covering letters and much of the materials are not to be found among the papers here calendared because they were filed under the heading Trade. Spain. Losses, as we can ascertain from the Journal, and they are now separated from the colonial papers. This emphasises the need to consult the Trade Papers of the Commissioners of Trade and Plantations concurrentlv with the calendared Colonial Papers in order to secure a complete conspectus of the business passing through the hands of the Board at any particular date. In relation to the proceedings of Benjamin Keene and the other commissioners, of course, reference should also be made to State Papers, Foreign, Spain. The papers are of direct interest for an understanding of the mechanism Of the colonial trade with the West Indies and systematic papers like the schedule Of losses sustained by the Governors and Company of the Roval Exchange Insurance and of the ships taken in 1727 that were insured by the London Assurance which are contained among the Trade Papers (journal, p.
