The Brown Pony Series Book Four: The Business of Hippotherapy is written for therapists who dream of entering into the arena to combine horses in their professional treatment plan with clients. The book is laid out in a logical manner beginning with a section called "Common Practice," formatted as questions and answers about how other therapists offer hippotherapy. Section two introduces "Getting Started" in hippotherapy by presenting ideas on legal structure and limiting liability. Then practical advice is explored regarding the facility and the therapy horses. Many therapists have difficulty charging clients and the fourth section covers budgeting and fee setting. One caveat of offering treatment in a natural environment with multiple support staff and a living animal inevitably is the risk of therapy cancellations and this topic is presented with multiple years of statistics. Finally, dozens and dozens of business form samples are offered to you in the appendix. What books are available in the Brown Pony Series? Book One: Introduction to Hippotherapy Book Two: Risk Management and Safety in Hippotherapy Book Three: Considering Hippotherapy in Your Career Plans Book Four: The Business of Hippotherapy PLUS ... You love horses and you love therapy ... is it possible to combine those two loves in a fulfilling career? Yes, it is! The information in this book is geared towards high school and college students, as well as practicing therapists, who are considering a career involving hippotherapy. Learn from those who are on the path working towards this career and from the author who has worked for over 20 years incorporating hippotherapy into her occupational therapy treatments. The book is organized into three sections ... Section One has four chapters ranging from a junior high school student's questions about a career of this type, to two college students pursuing a therapy degree and then to a licensed therapist pursuing the addition of hippotherapy to her therapy practice. Section Two contains 3 chapters all about horses, how do you choose and train a therapy horse, how do you fit saddles, and how do you prevent therapy horse burnout. Section Three consists of 3 chapters with the therapist in mind - how to provide a therapy internship, demystifying how hippotherapy is integrated into treatment planning and finally a "reality check" describing why therapist's offer hippotherapy even though it costs more to provide and is physically demanding. You won't want to miss the valuable and insightful information provided in each chapter. What books are available in the Brown Pony Series? Has anyone given your horse a treat without your permission and you worried about them getting bitten? It can be frustrating. You think they should know better. You don't want to come across as mean or bossy but you also don't have the time it takes to explain the reason behind barn rules. There are rules that cover for example, what to wear and what not to wear, how to behave around horses, and to wait for permission for various horse activities. The book ends with two bonus pages of the entire art collection of rules and the print version can be cut out, laminated and used as Picture Communication Cards for horse games, as a visual aid during barn orientation, or for children with autism. Girl on a Pony is the gritty, humorous, unflinchingly courageous story of five children growing up on a cattle ranch in the remote Valley of the Dry Cimarron in northeastern New Mexico near the little border town of Kenton, Oklahoma. Narrated years later by the oldest daughter, LaVerne, it is a vivid and authentic portrait of ranching life between the two world wars, from 1925, when the family moved to the Goodson Ranch from a half-dugout claim shack in Colorado, to 1936, when they began to disperse. During those years, people in the region endured blizzards, sick and maddened animals, drought, the Dust Bowl, and the Great Depression-with stoic good humor. In Girl on a Pony, cowboys go about their daily tasks, teaching the children all they know. Women endure the hardships of life in an isolated area, coping with the brutal labor ranch life requires of them, and maintaining touches of beauty and civilization where they can-creating lawns from relentlessly rocky soil, holding dances for their children, and painstakingly tatting when all else fails.
