Metro Nashville Homicide Lieutenant Taylor Jackson is none too happy when the body of a high-profile Nashvillian turns up after a protest. But when her detectives find another body with the same, mysterious wounds, it’s clear she has a psychopath on her hands—and records show he’s been on the move, leaving chaos in his wake. Will this killer slip through Taylor’s grasp, as he has slipped through grasps of so many, for so long? Managing type 1 diabetes during pregnancy is an incredibly overwhelming yet rewarding pursuit. It's about so much more than just counting your carbs and getting exercise. Due to constantly increasing hormones during pregnancy, your insulin needs constantly change, too. While no two women's pregnancies will be alike, the timing of those anticipated insulin adjustments will be similar. In this book, Ginger Vieira and Jennifer Smith, CDE & RD, guide you through preparing for pregnancy, from conception to birth, and through the challenges of managing your blood sugars during postpartum.REVIEWS:" Wow, there's so much information! The first part of the book, Preparing for Pregnancy, is presented quite well. It gives a WWT1D all the information she needs to prepare for pregnancy. But, I have to say, having lived vicariously through three pregnancies I think the Month-To-Month guide is brilliant. It should be read twice. First, all at once, to help a woman plan and prepare for the different stages of pregnancy. Then, slowly, as each phase opens and each experience becomes as emotional as it is physical. A wonderful guide. The personal testimonials that close out the book are a very nice touch." -Victor Van Beuren, Senior Acquisitions Director of ADA Books"If you have type 1 diabetes and are contemplating having a baby, before you do anything-and that means anything at all-make sure you grab a copy of Pregnancy With Type 1 Diabetes by Ginger Vieira, CHC, CPT and Jennifer C. Smith, RD, CDE. The book is subtitled 'Your Month-to-Month Guide to Blood Sugar Management,' but it's so much more, it will likely be referred to as 'the Type 1 pregnancy bible' before long."-Nancy Kaneshiro, DiabeticLifestyle.com"Ginger and co-author Jennifer Smith wanted to create a guide specifically designed to help women with type 1 diabetes meet those challenges. As mothers with diabetes themselves, they know what it's like to feel the fear of being pregnant while managing diabetes. Ginger has lived with type 1 diabetes and celiac disease since 1999, has written several books about diabetes, and is part of the editorial team at DiabetesDaily.com. Jenny, a Certified Diabetes Educator and Registered Dietitian, has lived with type 1 diabetes since 1990 and works as a diabetes coach for people across the globe. They will both soon be mothers of two children (Ginger is expecting her second child in May!). Their book Pregnancy with Type 1 Diabetes is not just an informative tool and resource, but is also a source of personal support, encouragement, and inspiration for all mothers-to-be with type 1 diabetes."-Amelia Dmowska, diaTribe.org

A New York Times Best Thriller of the Year "Terrific. You might come for the mystery, but you will stay for the sheer energy."--New York Times Book Review An utterly delicious debut thriller that tells the story of the most likable murderess you will ever meet, perfect for fans of Riley Sager and Jessica Knoll. “I could just kill you right now!” It’s something we’ve all thought at one time or another. But Ruby has actually acted on it. Three times, to be exact. Though she may be a murderer, Ruby is not a sociopath. She is an animal-loving therapist with a thriving practice. She’s felt empathy and sympathy. She’s had long-lasting friendships and relationships, and has a husband, Jason, whom she adores. But the homicide detectives at Miami Beach PD are not convinced of her happy marriage. When we meet Ruby, she is in a police interrogation room, being accused of Jason’s murder. Which, ironically, is one murder that she did not commit, though a scandal-obsessed public believes differently. As she undergoes questioning, Ruby’s mind races back to all the details of her life that led her to this exact moment, and to the three dead bodies in her wake. Because though she may not have killed her husband, Ruby certainly isn’t innocent. Alternating between Ruby’s memories of her past crimes and her present-day fight to clear her name, Blood Sugar is a twisty, clever debut with an unforgettable protagonist who you can’t help but root for—an addicting mixture of sour and sweet.

Why do African Americans have exceptionally high rates of hypertension, diabetes, and obesity? Is it their genes? Their disease-prone culture? Their poor diets? Such racist explanations for racial inequalities in metabolic health have circulated in medical journals for decades. Blood Sugar analyzes and challenges the ways in which “metabolic syndrome” has become a major biomedical category that medical researchers have created to better understand the risks high blood pressure, blood sugar, body fat, and cholesterol pose to people. An estimated sixty million Americans are well on the way to being diagnosed with it, many of them belonging to people of color. Anthony Ryan Hatch argues that the syndrome represents another, very real crisis and that its advent signals a new form of “colorblind scientific racism”—a repackaging of race within biomedical and genomic research. Examining the cultural discussions and scientific practices that target human metabolism of prescription drugs and sugar by African Americans, he reveals how medical researchers who use metabolic syndrome to address racial inequalities in health have in effect reconstructed race as a fixed, biological, genetic feature of bodies—without incorporating social and economic inequalities into the equation. And just as the causes of metabolic syndrome are framed in racial terms, so are potential drug treatments and nutritional health interventions. The first sustained social and political inquiry of metabolic syndrome, this provocative and timely book is a crucial contribution to the emerging literature on race and medicine. It will engage those who seek to understand how unjust power relations shape population health inequalities and the production of medical knowledge and biotechnologies.

This book is based on the author's personal experience with Type II Diabetes and its effects on her body. After strictly adhering to the recommended regimen of daily blood draws, medication and extreme dietary adjustments over the course of many years, Leonida Lidman still found herself in great physical and emotional pain. It was only with the discovery of baby's milk and the solution to the sudden fluctuations of blood glucose that she was able to regain much of the physical energy she enjoyed before diabetes afflicted and tortured her body. Intermingling personal observations of her ailments with medical information copied verbatim from books and leaflets given to her at medical appointments, the author gives a thorough overview of the definitions, side effects and treatment options involved in dealing with diabetes. The author hopes readers will come away with a firm understanding of the disasters that diabetes can wreck on the human body, why these side effects occur, and with solutions to potentially live pain-free lives. About the Author: Mrs. Leonida Lidman received an M.A. in Education from the University of The Philippines and an M.S. in Human Resources Management from the New School for Social Research, New School University, Fifth Avenue, New York City, in 1987. She also graduated in 2009 with an advanced writing course from The Long Ridge Writers' Group School, Long Ridge, West Redding, Connecticut. She is also a recipient of U.S. Patent #4,680,179, a fruit-flavored coconut water-based liqueur with no added sugar and no preservatives.
