Jake Silver may not be able to put the memories of his time as a sniper and Navy SEAL behind him, but at least he can put his skills to use as a part of the Jones Inc. rescue team. Saving the life of pediatric heart surgeon Dr. Aria Sinclair on Denali helped too. Now he can't get her out of his head, and when he hears she is in the path of a hurricane down in Key West he can't help but jump on a plane to rescue her. Aria has dedicated her life to helping children born with defective hearts. After all, she was one of those children. Now driven to succeed, she lives a lonely, stressful life. One she would have lost on Denali if it hadn't been for Jake. Jake is exciting and handsome, but he's also dangerous, and she's already lost one person she loves. She can't bear it again. It's not until she finds herself trapped in the middle of a category 4 hurricane that she can admit she needs Jake desperately. With their very survival in the balance, can they hope for a second chance at life . . . and love?

Success in school, in work, and in life can be greatly enhanced by the ability to write effectively. And due to the writing process revolution we are gradually improving the quality of writing. The writing process focuses on exploring metacognitively what writers actually do throughout a writing task; how real writers go about constructing texts. Teachers work closely with students, helping them to understand writing as a communication and learning process. The importance of the creation, expression, and comprehension of meaning is emphasized throughout the process. Because writing is a complex process, students need to progress through a number of levels, not necessarily in a linear fashion, to experience the process. Too often students approach writing with a "one and done" mentality, failing to recognize that complex writing cannot be accomplished in a single sitting, in a single draft. We need to help them realize that successful writers are reflective about their writing processes and habits, learning what procedures work best and adapting them to suit particular situations. The best forum for implementing the writing process into the classroom is through a writer's workshop. A typical writer's workshop is a block of time scheduled each day for students to work through the steps in the process. It is important to remember that writing should extend across the curriculum. If a block of writing time can't be scheduled for one day it should be integrated into another subject. Writing should be viewed as a means of communicating and emerge naturally out of other activities. Teachers should make writing so integral to each lesson that the flow of the class is smooth from mental to verbal to written communication. Teachers using the workshop approach do not ignore the product and parts of language. Instead, the product is considered within the process. Grammar and mechanics are taught in the context of use. In the past, the teaching of formal grammar usually displaced some instruction and practice in actual composition. Unfortunately, with our overcrowded curriculum, teachers can't afford to spend excessive class time on decontexualized grammar exercises that involve little or no actual composition. Students should be given daily opportunities to explore writing and create written text for various purposes. We know that writing is a powerful tool that can influence others and clarify one's own thoughts. Teaching the writing process through the workshop approach can give students the key to unlocking this powerful tool. And the activities in this book are designed to help make the process easier for teachers to pick up and implement today. You will find over 200 mini lessons designed to stimulate critical and creative thinking that can be applied to written composition in all phases of the writing process. Students will continue to recognize that adults who use these activities in the context of authentic literacy lessons are those who are committed to facilitating and promoting only the very best of writers.

What do you do when your life plan goes up in flames? Army sniper Reid Colborn has nothing left. His last mission was technically a success. Enemy hit. Boy rescued. Day saved. Getting trapped in a burning building, however, wasn’t part of the plan. Now Reid doesn’t have a steady shooting arm, and his military career is over. Heading back to his hometown of Maplehaven, Vermont is not the next target he’d hoped for, but he’s out of choices. Until architect Valerie Bellerose gives him another option. When Valerie sees Reid, every detail of their one night together as teens nearly ten years ago comes flooding back. Not that the memory had ever died. Reid had given her something that had made it impossible to forget him. Now that he’s back, can they have a second chance to hit their mark? Is one kind hero high enough caliber to build the family they’ve always wanted? One Kind Hero is a second-chance, small-town, steamy contemporary romance novella with a wounded military hero searching for what comes next after losing everything. For more romances set in Maplehaven, check out the One Kind Deed Series also by Christine DePetrillo. The Heart of the Wounded Hero series was created to pay tribute to and raise awareness of our wounded heroes. Each of the over eighty authors involved have contributed time, money, and stories to the cause. These love stories are inspiring and uplifting, showing the sacrifice of our veterans but also giving them the happily ever after they deserve. By increasing awareness through our books, we believe we can in a small part help the wounded heroes that have sacrificed so much. Thank you for reading.

The hero's journey is a process of (re)discovery of the principles that make up the national identity of a country. These principles must then be applied in the formulation and implementation of foreign policy. For the seventh time in its history, America has discovered a grand synthesis of power and morality in projecting its resources and principles into the global arena. This makes possible a more assertive, moral foreign policy course in responding to a range of foreign policy challenges. Of these challenges, Salla asserts, the most profound in terms of the scale of human suffering around the planet is that concerning violations of the rights of ethnic minorities. Ethnic conflicts and the humanitarian crises and massive human rights violations they generate form a foreign policy challenge that will preoccupy the minds of policy makers for much of the 21st century. NATO's intervention in the Kosovo crisis is the high water mark for America's seventh hero's journey. The intervention sends a decisive signal to all governments that the U.S. and its allies will no longer remain inactive in the face of states attempting to militarily repress the aspirations of their ethnic minorities. This moral interventionism can safely be extended well into the 21st century if policy makers wisely combine the moral principles and foreign policy challenges that make up both the Second American Century and America's (Seventh) Hero's journey. This provocative analysis will be of interest to all scholars, students, and researchers involved with the development of American foreign policy.

In 1858 the land of Wauganauksi teeters on the brink of destruction. Two forces strive to live in compatibility on the land, forces that are so diverse in their ways that only one can survive. The Odawa, always great Warriors, have little understanding of how to fight against treaties they never signed and courts that acknowledge only the Shaganosh's way of life. The Shaganosh, rapacious in their hunger for land and profit, have no wish to understand anything but the coins in their pockets and the prospect of more such wealth being ripped from the land. A saviour is needed to bring the land back into balance. The one Creator sends to the People is not in a form the Shaganosh understand. Neither is the beauty and the balance she comes to teach--a beauty and balance she must first find for herself. It will take a life time of instruction and loneliness to pave the way to this knowing. It will take a battle with a destructive Manitou to bring it to life. Even if she must die in the process.
