This bulletin has been prepared to provide a basic understanding of the FCC regulations for digital (computing) devices, and includes answers to some commonly-asked questions. The information in this bulletin reflects the current rules and regulations governing digital devices. These rules and regulations are expected to change soon as a result of final action to be taken on the Notice of Proposed Rule Making (NPRM) adopted in ET Docket 95-19. In the NPRM, the FCC proposes to amend Parts 2 and 15 of the rules to deregulate the equipment authorization requirements for digital devices.

Revisions to Rules Authorizing the Operation of Low Power Auxiliary Stations in the 698-806 MHz Band (US Federal Communications Commission Regulation) (FCC) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the Revisions to Rules Authorizing the Operation of Low Power Auxiliary Stations in the 698-806 MHz Band (US Federal Communications Commission Regulation) (FCC) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 In this Report and Order, the Commission establishes a deadline for wireless microphones and other low power auxiliary stations to cease operation in the 700 MHz Band. The Commission also adopts an early clearing mechanism by which 700 MHz public safety and commercial licensees can provide notice that they are initiating operations in the 700 MHz Band. In addition, the Commission prohibits the manufacture, import, sale, lease, offer for sale or lease, or shipment of wireless microphones and other low power auxiliary stations intended for use in the 700 MHz Band. With regard to users who are not eligible for, or who do not hold part 74, Subpart H license authorizations, the Commission waive its part 15 rules for a limited period. Finally, the Commission adopts certain disclosure requirements under which manufacturers, dealers, distributors, and other entities that sell or lease these devices must display a consumer disclosure at the point of sale or lease. Unlicensed National Information Infrastructure (U-NII) Devices in the 5 GHz Band (US Federal Communications Commission Regulation) (FCC) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the Unlicensed National Information Infrastructure (U-NII) Devices in the 5 GHz Band (US Federal Communications Commission Regulation) (FCC) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 This document amends the Commission rules governing the operation of unlicensed National Information Infrastructure (U-NII) devices in the 5 GHz band to make broadband technologies more widely available for consumers and businesses by increasing power and permitting outdoor use in the U-NII-1 band and by adding 25 megahertz to the U-NII-3 band; it also takes steps to reduce the potential for harmful interference to incumbent operations. The proceeding satisfies the requirements of the Spectrum Act, by which Congress required that the Commission begin a proceeding regarding U-NII devices in the 5 GHz band within a year if it determined, after consultation with NTIA, that incumbents will be protected and their missions will not be compromised. Spectrum Requirements for Advanced Medical Technologies (US Federal Communications Commission Regulation) (FCC) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the Spectrum Requirements for Advanced Medical Technologies (US Federal Communications Commission Regulation) (FCC) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 This document establishes a new Medical Device Radiocommunication Service (MedRadio Service) of the Commission's rules. This new service incorporates the existing Medical Implant Communications Service (MICS) "core" band at 402-405 MHz, and also includes two megahertz of newly designated spectrum in the adjacent "wing" bands at 401-402 MHz and 405-406 MHz. The MedRadio Service will accommodate the operation of body-worn as well as implanted medical devices, including those using either listen-before-talk ("LBT") frequency monitoring or non-LBT spectrum access methods, in designated portions of the 401-406 MHz band. Radio Experimentation and Market Trials - Streamlining Rules (US Federal Communications Commission Regulation) (FCC) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the Radio Experimentation and Market Trials - Streamlining Rules (US Federal Communications Commission Regulation) (FCC) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 This document revises and streamlines the Commission rules to modernize the Experimental Radio Service (ERS). The rules adopted in the Report and Order updates the ERS to a more flexible framework to keep pace with the speed of modern technological change while continuing to provide an environment where creativity can thrive. To accomplish this transition, the Commission created three new types of ERS licenses-the program license, the medical testing license, and the compliance testing license-to benefit the development of new technologies, expedite their introduction to the marketplace, and unleash the full power of innovators to keep the United States at the forefront of the communications industry. The Commission's actions also modify the market trial rules to eliminate confusion and more clearly articulate its policies with respect to marketing products prior to equipment certification. The Commission believes that these actions will remove regulatory barriers to experimentation, thereby permitting institutions to move from concept to experimentation to finished product more rapidly and to more quickly implement creative problem-solving methodologies.
