The Asia and the Pacific SDG Progress Report 2023 analyses regional and subregional progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and targets. It applies a measurement framework developed by ESCAP to identify progress gaps and acceleration requirements at the goal, target and indicator levels. While there are impressive national accomplishments across the 17 Goals, none of the countries in the region are on track to reach them and overall achievement is much lower than anticipated for the midpoint. One impediment to success is gaps in available data. This report features good practices on data driven approaches for effective implementation of the 2030 Agenda, which provide lessons to countries and can be leveraged to advance sustainable development in the region.

The main objective of the Asia and the Pacific SDG Progress Report 2019 is to assess regional and subregional progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and targets. It will highlight areas of SDGs that the region has made progress and areas that need collective decisions for prioritizing acceleration or changing the trend. The report will complement other ESCAP SDG-related publications such as inequality theme study and SDG costing to inform deliberations at the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD), the Asia -Pacific Commission and subsequently in other occasions. The report also aim to provide an effective communication tool that foster inclusive regional consultations and effective engagement of the stakeholders including media and civil society. The report will utilize cross-nationally comparable data from ESCAP database on the proposed SDGs indicator framework and when necessary use supplementary statistics available at the regional and sub-regional levels. In addition to regional and subregional SDG progress analysis, the 2019 version of the regional SDG progress report will provide insights about data availability for SDG monitoring and identifies gapes and provides recommendations for investing in statistical development to fill in such gaps.

This publication provides updated statistics on a comprehensive set of economic, financial, social, and environmental measures as well as select indicators for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The report covers the 49 regional members of ADB. It discusses trends in development progress and the challenges to achieving inclusive and sustainable economic growth across Asia and the Pacific. This 52nd edition discusses how the COVID-19 pandemic has intensified the challenges of meeting development targets, which needed urgent attention even before the global health crisis began. To put into practice the "leave no one behind" principle of the SDGs, the availability of more detailed and informative data is crucial. With the pandemic intensifying society's reliance on digital platforms for remote working and learning, as well as for shopping and entertainment, the 2021 report features a special supplement, Capturing the Digital Economy: A Proposed Measurement Framework and Its Applications, which is rooted in input-output analysis and uses readily available national accounts data. The study provides a sound basis on which to assess the relative importance of the digital economy in national and global production processes.

The publication covers the 49 regional members of ADB. It discusses trends in development progress and the challenges to achieving inclusive and sustainable economic growth across Asia and the Pacific. This 53rd edition finds that the COVID-19 pandemic has set back the fight against poverty in the region by at least 2 years. Drawing on data simulations, it concludes that people with less social mobility may experience longer-lasting difficulties in escaping poverty. Key Indicators for Asia and the Pacific 2022 includes a special chapter on how data resilience can be achieved in the wake of pandemic disruptions to the operations of national statistical systems. The publication is complemented by a special supplement, Mapping the Public Voice for Development: Natural Language Processing of Social Media Text Data, which explores how social media text data can be harnessed to help policymakers understand the opinions, ideas, and expectations of the public.
