"A Century of Conservation" was produced to celebrate the centennial anniversary of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, a state conservation agency created March 11, 1915. The agency released "Arkansas Wildlife: A History" in 1998, which goes into greater detail. "A Century of Conservation" explores the highlights of the agency's efforts to restore wildlife and fish after market hunting and uncontrolled fishing took their tolls. The resurgence of white-tailed deer, black bears, largemouth bass and other species are explained with short blocks of text and full-page photographs of landscapes and wildlife. Other milestones are included - an amendment to the state constitution that gave independence to the agency, passage of a conservation tax, introduction of trout, construction of four nature centers and construction of four conservation education centers, for instance. The book is written chronologically and includes a timeline of important events. It also includes a list of commissioners and agency directors.
