Together the book and exhibition present an artist-initiated re-reading of the seminal work of exhibition designer, Herbert Bayer, whose 1942 exhibition 'Road to Victory' at the Museum of Modern Art in New York presented a highly aestheticised and celebratory representation of the American involvement in the Second World War.00In revisiting this moment in the history of exhibitions, Pittas draws our attention to the embedding of propagandistic elements in artistic display conventions, ranging from the Russian avant-garde to the contemporary moment. Founded by Bik van der Pol, the Dutch collaborative art duo of Liesbeth Bik (b. 1959) and Jos van der Pol (b. 1961), the School of Missing Studies started in 2003 as a collective made-up of artists and architects who recognized the missing as a matter of urgency in public space and how cultural education was so close yet so far removed from cultural production.
