That pamphlet is now out of print; and circumstances of recent oc currence seemed to him to call for a re investigation of the question. This re investigation, he would, willingly, have yielded to other and abler hands, could he have prevailed on any of his bre threm to have undertaken the task; but the painful labour has fallen to his lot, in consequence of the necessary agency which he had, in 1824, in the discus sion of the question which is here pre sented, when, in the Spring of that year, it was a subject of judicial investigation before the General Assembly of our church; and the farther, equally necas sary, but still more painful agency which he had, in the discussion oi the vi preface.
