The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars. Delve into what it was like to live during the eighteenth century by reading the first-hand accounts of everyday people, including city dwellers and farmers, businessmen and bankers, artisans and merchants, artists and their patrons, politicians and their constituents. Original texts make the American, French, and Industrial revolutions vividly contemporary. ++++ The below data was compiled from various identification fields in the bibliographic record of this title. And IV I have not forgotten my muhe-maller, Cajon, a little, lively, talkative being, born at Macon, where he had 'been a finging-boy. He was afterwards by turns a foldier, a deferrer, a capuchin friar, a clerk in a counting-houfe, and laflly a vagrant, arriving at Paris with his wife and children without' a penny in his pocket; but he had a very pleafing counter voice, rarely to be met with in men who have not nu dergone a certain operation, and admirably adapted to the teaching of young perfons to fing. Introduced to my father, I know not by whom, he had me for his firll fcholar. He bellowed on me confiderable pains: frequently borrowed money of my parents, which was foon fpent; never returned me a colleclion of leflbns by Bordier, which he plundered with fo art, as to compile from it the Element: qf sz'c, that he publilhed in his own name; lived in great flyle without being rich, and at the end of fifteen years, terminated his career by quitting Paris, where he had contraéled heavy debts, and by repairing to Ruf fia, where I know not what became of him.
