The classic guide to meeting procedure—updated to meet the needs of today’s organizations For more than 60 years, American Institute of Parliamentarians Standard Code of Parliamentary Procedure (formerly, the Sturgis Standard Code) has been helping meeting organizers and participants ensure fairness and justice on a consistent basis. This updated edition provides important new motions and protocols pertaining to electronic meetings, discipline, and finance and audit committees. “The Standard Code lays out the rules in a clear, concise, and readable format for all to use.” —former U.S. Senator Don Nickles “Meeting rules can be abstruse, even to the point of frustration to the average member in an organization. The Standard Code promises to keep the rules simple and understandable—and has delivered on its promise for more than sixty years.” —Robert Dove, Parliamentarian Emeritus of the United States Senate “Takes uncommon terminology and puts it in everyday terms for more clarity in meetings. The Standard Code is an important addition to any parliamentary library.” —Ronald R. Stinson, NAP President 2009-2011 “The meeting-attendee who picks this book up will not only become proficient in the use of the meeting rules, but will also learn the important democratic principles behind the rules.” —Congressman Mike Simpson (Idaho) “Comprehensive and easily understandable.” —Perry Opin, D.D.S., M.Sc.D., Speaker of the House of Delegates of the Connecticut State Dental Association

On a popular TV game show, the game board provides the answer and the contestants have to come up with the question. The game board contains five questions in each of six categories; and the three contestants compete against each other to be the first to "buzz in" to provide the question. While the answers in this book all fall into one category, "American Institute of Parliamentarians Standard Code of Parliamentary Procedure," and this list of answers and questions doesn't provide an electronic "buzz in" system, parliamentarians can now join in the fun and try their hand at finding the correct question to parliamentary answers. While this book can't provide you with buzzers and a big answer board, the book does contain lots of answers (along with the "correct" question). The answers and questions can be grouped for playing games like the television show. Another way to use the answers is to transfer them to cards, shuffle the cards, and ask the answers in whatever order they are drawn from the shuffled deck. Whatever way you choose, make it fun! So, contestants, hands on your buzzers and get ready for a fast and fun session of: Here is the Answer! What is the Question?

This updated and revised edition of Keesey's classic guidebook offers clear rules of order for efficient democratic action in deliberative meetings, streamlining concepts and procedures in the parliamentary process. Brief and concise, this is an easy-to-use teaching tool and at-a-glance guide. In 1971, Ray Keesey developed a guidebook that revolutionized parliamentary procedure. By eliminating misleading terminology and simplifying many of the complex and overly technical aspects of the traditional parliamentary process, Keesey's book offered clear rules of order for efficient democratic action in deliberative meetings. Thanks to its accessibility and lack of jargon, the Keesey System has become widely used by large deliberative bodies and small associations alike, allowing readers to quickly comprehend and implement the rules without needing to be experts on parliamentary process. Revised and updated with the expertise of the American Institute of Parliamentarians, this second edition includes rules that relate to technological innovations such as electronic voting and offsite attendees. Key features include a more logical classification of parliamentary motions, the elimination of superfluous motions, and key recommendations for preventing and managing disruptions. This book is an essential reference for associations, clubs, student groups, and larger deliberative bodies seeking clear and effective procedural rules.
